@re The ran reports from June to Dec and targeted people with less than 2 hours in the office...reports are being generated in waves...next report comes out in May and will cover Jan to April..

@nc Not true...my co-worker that was fired yesterday received the highest performance rating...doesn't matter what your rating is. Also it IS covered in the Code of Conduct this year...

@re I’m not really sure. I heard somewhere from mid year 2025 to now. But I can’t say.

@rh y’all need to stop talking about productivity. Management knows how much more work you get done at home. They just don’t care. It’s about controlling your life.

Anyone from HR or management here that can confirm what they are looking at/for? Minimum of 2 hours? Minimum of 4? of 6? Starting since the new year? Since June of last year? Just seems like there's not really a set guideline in place. Su-ks to hear that high perfomers were let go, seems to me just a warning would've been better suited, especially with the closure of the Denver Office

I wonder why there wasn't more awareness about this... I mean obviously a lot of people will /do abuse this... but why not just make it clear that you need to stay a minimum 'X hours' per day so people aren't paranoid about missing the threshold?

It isn’t just coffee badgers nor low performers. It includes high performers that thought hybrid was more flexible than what was shared and actually thought we were supposed to come into the office to collaborate and for the culture.

Efficiency and human experience clearly come second to maximum desk time. God forbid a person works smarter while also being perpetually short staffed.

@rd

Are they targeting people who did this within a specific time frame (Last 6 months, or last 4 weeks) or just going forward?

@qv I wouldn’t think too deep like this. They are tracking the specific day and respective hours for that day.
If you’re working 5-6 hours in office 3x/wk, your gym days are irrelevant to the things they are looking for.

@qy at a team dinner, my director told me of three people that were fired for doing this exact thing.

Tell your friend to stop

as someone said in a diff thread or maybe this one , no no more extra curricular participation! for me. if they’re not counting my time in office doing extra curricular stuff like culture building activities, then no participation from me anymore . bye bye brgs !

@OP Wow. On the verge of World War III, gas prices already a four dollars a gallon, groceries going up crazy, but this is what they’re focused on. Good luck y’all, been long gone for awhile now, so glad.

They're only targeting low performers or those that get paid a high salary as far as Im aware . As with everyhting, whatever they can do to cut costs and save money. I think the expectation will be 5 times a week going forward

I have a work friend that’s not in my department who walks in right before midnight to get 2 swipes. one for the preivous night and one for the next morning, in the span of 5 minutes. not sure how she’s been getting away with this, but if anyone is next it’s her. idk if her manager knows because he’s not in our lication. i aspire to have this level of idgaf about anything in my life one day.

@qv Exactly. My gym was the same distance as the office, so I canceled my $150/month membership and just go to the office gym every morning, even on my remote days. Now it sounds like those days where I don’t log on until I get home from the office gym, or I check my email after the gym but then head home, could be hurting me? Even though I’m there past lunch on my 3 in office days, it sounds like my license plate swipes on the other days could be hurting my in-office hours on my full office days?

@qt they were given a “warning” a couple of weeks ago and since then they have been going to the office for all 8 hours a day. It didn’t matter, seems like they had already made up their mind. The manager was aware, and the friend said it seems like he tried to reason with HR but it didn’t work. But when it comes to managers here who knows what’s true or not. Manager did seem a little shocked but he was aware this was going to happen so not sure why he would be. We were told the friends work would be divided with the teams remaining. So I guess we are their backup plan. Just like the TIAA way, fire top performers for literally the d-mbest reasons (when it clearly wasn’t affecting their work by not working in the office) then say good luck figure it out.

Hmm I wonder if you do 5 hours for 3 days a week, then 0 hours the other two days to come in and use the gym or grab a cup of coffee before work on your WFH days, would that make you 3 hours per day for 5 days on average instead of the 5 hours you did on the minimum 3 days you were required. Basically: is coming in for less than 5 hours on the extra 2 days worse than just not coming at all on those 2 days because it lowers your daily average?

@qj

Wow, that su-ks to hear. I figured that they werent targeting high performers. What area did your friend work in? Wealth? IT?

Did HR reach out to them directly or were they notified by their manager? Did their manager know about they were going to fire them or was the manager not aware? Seems a bit dangerous to jut fire at whim without offering a 'warning' , especially if they're business critical.

Just heard from a friend who was fired today for this. I didn’t want to believe it either but this is happening guys. I’m not sure if they are just using this as an excuse to let people go and selecting this as the reason why, or if they’re going to do it for everyone. I know so many people who have been doing this so they are probably just doing a select few for now but I guess could increase. They were also a top performer, so it has nothing to do with that. So yeah, this is happening guys.

@nc buddy, this is NC. They can fire you at will.

by

Post ID: @qc+1kk1rxevs

@nc they are straight up firing people who aren’t spending a predetermined amount of time in office. I know somebody personally who was fired and it was without warning nor an opportunity to fix it. They did not receive severance either. It had nothing to do with their performance. TIAA has been laying off people for years and not giving raises because operating expenses are too high. One of the latest trainings we have talks about hours spent in office too. Also, NC is an at will state meaning that you can be fired for any reason.

I don’t know why people here are over complicating this. Actions have consequences. If you want to take the chance, go ahead.

Where is it documented that you have to be in the office for x hours for it to count as a day in the office? Right it’s not. They can’t hold anyone accountable to it if they don’t define it. The fired “coffee badgers” probably had other issues on top of it that management just piled it on and they couldn’t fight it.

@mq if they can fully prove it, then they can likely justify as repeated violation of company policy or something along those lines.

The statement was made clear by HR many times, so I could see them using this as the reason. They reiterated a while back that 3 days or more , no exceptions. Granted, some folks go below 3 and are given a warning or whatever, but badging to get credit and just leaving essentially equates to zero days in office.

And yes, they are just straight up firing people.

Are they targeting specific date ranges? Or just those that are actively coffee badging?

Curious, are they straight up firing or put to probation first? Seems a bit excessibe that they would fire everyone that did this

@j5 please report back when they eventually fire you. They don’t just let people go without a contingency plan in place.

We will all be back in office 5x/wk because of this. Grown adults trying to cheat the system is wild in this job climate. Acting like a 12 year old cutting class

Sure, the in-office policy is stupid, but this type of stuff kinda proves their point

I have never been warned about doing this. I spend a solid 5 minutes at the office. Haha! If I’m safe, you have nothing to worry about.

One way to track is how long you are long into TIAA wi-fi, logging in with VPN, logging into Saleforce, going in and of the garage...

Told you guys last week HR was firing people for minimum hours in the office- current firings are for less than 2 hours per day...most comments said I was not telling thee truth...I guess the truth hurts!! You better be in at least 6 hours per day...there are many ways to track...

Yes. I heard of a handful that were let go, per actual managers. And they were told this was exact reason why. My manager reiterated to be present at the office around 5ish hours.
