…knock it off! I know it su-ks always being worried about losing your job every Tuesday after payday, but you really don’t want to lose your job, especially with so many industries laying off in the last year or so. It sounds good to have a break from all the cr-p that goes on in office (I totally get that), but being freshly unemployed is NOT fun and I do not wish that upon anyone! It is hard to find a job in 2025/2026, especially when you don’t already have a job. A lot of posts for the last week or so saying March 3rd was going to be a huge day for layoffs and it was no worse than any other day. Stop creating unnecessary drama and fear for people saying the sky is falling when it’s not. Yes, I know some people lost their jobs yesterday and that su-ks, but be a good person and don’t post rumors…only post facts!

You can find another job if you’ve put effort into building relationships and networking. I didn’t even start looking until 9 months in. Found a fantastic new job with a better company. That company came to me. If you’ve focused efforts in the right places you’ll be just fine. If you didn’t, you’re in for a rough ride. I was giddy the day I got the call. Good luck everyone.
"especially with so many industries laying off in the last year or so."
News flash @OP that's not a canary in the coal mine. Main Street is already in a recession, which average 18 months, so a year of severance is likely to bridge the gap to the recovery and an improving job market.
That's why people hold on, the math is in their favor.
I'm not ready yet, but if I can hold on a couple more years I can take a years worth of severance right into a permanent retirement. So, not a golden ticket now, but it will be eventually. Save harder my friends.
Maybe for you. If I get laid off next week, I’ll be paid through Christmas. I’ve been planning on this for two years, saving the whole time. I can’t wait for my mini retirement!
I continue to be confused about this layoff/termination issue: I’m hearing there are no more layoffs because they’ve run out of severance money so they’re going the poor performance route to terminate people. From my reading of this post and others, so many people are wishing for layoffs; but if indeed there are no layoffs, what these people are really asking for — and will end up with,is to be terminated, which means no money … no nothing. It’s that old expression about being careful what you wish for… if you wish to be let go; in all reality, you may be terminated.
Try 2000 FTE where displaced on the 3rd.
@OP su-k it up cupcake. Most people I know welcome the layoff because in most all of our cases it's inevitable. Control the things you can, and let go of the things you can't control. Acceptance is survival.
I was laid off back in 2009 from a different company during The Great Recession. It took a while to get hired again. My next serious full time job was here at Wells. So, for folks who aren't retiring, layoffs aren't really a golden ticket or anything to be happy about even if you don't like your current job.
I was laid off about 20 years ago and couldn't find a meaningful job for almost a year. It kind of su-ked. That was when I was single. Now with a family and the breadwinner, it's very nerve-racking.
@OP Speak for yourself, GIVE ME THE TICKET!
Some of us are prepared to be laid off and welcoming it due to stress! If you aren't, Who cares. Scroll on.
Certainly, for people who are about to retire, this is a different situation. For everyone else, the grass is always greener......
My spouse is letting me retire as soon as I (finally) get a severance package. I know a ton of us are strategically waiting it out.
Agree to disagree. If you are prepared for the golden ticket and ready to retire, the golden ticket is the real deal.
