Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

TIAA doesn't deserve loyalty

They'll take your dedication, thank you for it, then lay you off like it's nothing. Don't be loyal to a place that sees you as replaceable. Learn from those of us who've been through it.

@zn To be fair, branded popcorn and cookies have been provided all week . . . and NOBODY wants them!

But we get popcorn so they can show their appreciation. On a Friday when hardly anyone goes to the office

Dont fall for the slogan that says "its a we thing". "We" only includes you if it serves their interests.

Gosh. Grow up. When an employee leaves because she can get more money somewhere else or to get a bigger job somewhere else, no one points the finger and says she was disloyal. It goes both ways. We can leave whenever we want and they can let us go whenever they want.

@OP corporate America has been like this for decades and to think any other way is naive. Always keep your ear to the ground for new opportunities. It’s pretty much the only way to get meaningful pay bumps nowadays.

That’s totally normal. If any employee finds better opportunities, they will also leave in no time. It’s just about work and get paid, no need to be emotionally attached.

Oh, they absolutely care.

They care about quarterly earnings.
They care about shareholder value.
They care about “operational efficiency.”

You? You’re a headcount on a spreadsheet.

Corporate America isn’t a family — it’s a business model. If offshoring saves 12%, they’ll offshore. If automation cuts costs, they’ll automate. If layoffs bump the stock price, suddenly it’s “a strategic realignment.”

Work hard. Get paid. Build your skills. Keep your résumé warm.
Because when a company says “we value our people,” what they usually mean is “we value our people… until the numbers say otherwise.”
