Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The pressure never lets up

Is it just me, or does every day feel like you’re bracing for something? Meetings have gotten tense, and the only time you hear feedback is when something went wrong. God forbid you get commended for a job well done. In the end, I just keep my head down and try not to get noticed too much, either way.

I’ve been prepping for being laid off for about 2 years now. Get your ducks in a row so when a SIPP is offered you can make an intelligent decision for you and your family. I have 30 years and am a DEG tech.

Market Based Culture = Toxic Culture with constant hostility and Indian outsourcing.

I have already outgrown my position and my group. All the people with the same cognitive level as me are gone, now I have become the brain of the team, and all it does is drain me. There is zero critical thinking, or understanding the entire concept, but people who only function to push buttons. It is exhausting when the position no longer challenges you and further drain you.

I love market based culture. You will be nicely rewarded for your contributions.

I have felt this way for 35 years being here.

It's called "conditioning". Inherent to the human brain and something that governing bodies & essential industry rely on!
You are noticing it now because it has been ramped up... mainly due to the industry you currently receive a paycheck from! Good luck to all and keep control of what one can, getting our house prepared and together. This will require us to cut back and hopefully with that, purchasing power numbers slow it down enough.

OP-

Is it just me, or does every day feel like you’re bracing for something?

It’s not just you. It has been that way for a LONG time at T.

That’s what you get with a market based culture. I’ve worked at several companies like that. It’s cut throat and everyone competes. There is no team and you don’t have friends, just allies for the moment. If someone can throw you under the bus to get ahead, they will. it’s really a terrible environment designed for short term employees, short term thinking, and short term gains. Companies don’t want people staying more than 3-5 years anymore. Best you can do is treat the company the same in return, I’m here for the money, you want me to do more, pay me more, when I deliver above and beyond you pay me more. If not, don’t expect but meets requirements. That’s how market based labor works.

Of course we are going to stay, at the golf course at 9 am.

Fortunately I was able to retire recently. I've kept my contacts with people at ATT. One of them, charged with handling layoffs for very large departments around the country, said she understands 2026 will be a "blood bath".

It’s all bad news all the time, and corporate mumbo jumbo. I ignore literally all of it.

@a4 of course we stay - the money is good while we look elsewhere.

Almost all of us are going to eventually be laid off. Some of us will ride it out while wisely preparing for moving on while others will be unprepared and in denial until it's too late. And we each chose which camp we're in.
