Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Nepotism is getting out of hand

The recent hires coming through are really questionable. Some managers are just bringing in friends who aren't qualified for the roles. Hard to watch when actual talent is sitting out there looking for work.

I can agree if they are doing these tasks at an org level. I’ll go one further. People who have even a PHD but can’t understand analytics shouldn’t be in charge of creating reports or reviewing reports that affect headcount.

Metrics have a time and a place, but data needs to be prepped, scrubbed, tested and challenged to be verified. Not only identify outliers, but very WHY there are outliers - is your source data valid, are there gaps in data, etc. One size fits all methods for measurement usually fail in critical areas, like profitable, but specialized clients. I’m an old guy with no degree, and even I know that.

There is so much nepotism in the company that it no longer matters. These are people requiring a handout to be employed because they cannot do it on their own.
I feel sorry for them.

Uh… when nepotism hiring starts with the CEO, as in his daughter, it sets the tone. Not surprising that it runs rampant throughout the company.
