Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

L3Harris for early career

Hey everyone, I'm an incoming intern for L3Harris and stumbled across this forum. It seems like most people here are knowledgeable about the state of the company. I'm not sure how often the company converts interns to full time, but I was wondering if L3Harris is a solid place to start a career if I were to receive an offer. The rise of AI is also scary, and I'm not sure how stable an entry level job at the company would be. Any insights would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

An offer after internship varies by management chain. Some are very consistent and others not so much. There was a general push to always hire interns, but that has lost all steam with the focus now being on our 4 business metrics hardcore. Generally if you're early career I would advise you not to plan to stay with any company for long. Businesses will treat their employee poorly when the job market is in their favor, and that's now. Wages have been stagnant for decades, so the only way to get your salary up is to take different roles internally or externally. Plan on that. Don't let yourself be taken advantage of. The old notion of working extra hard and getting rewarded later is a fairytale at this point. Managers change every few years as do entire organizations. Be easy to work with, build relationships, and use them to help you role hop to raise your salary. General salary increases are around 3% in our industry, and promos are too few, neither are keeping up with new college grad salary inflation. It's so bad that companies have special incentive programs to retain early career folks so that new college grads don't start off making more than folks with 3 yrs in. Compare yourself to your peers and make sure you do a little better than them and you'll end up with higher increases and better chances at promotion.. Make sure your getting what you want and don't be afraid to leave if you aren't.

@10s
Oh heck yeah!
The " Good Fellas"
In Clifton have been ripping that company off for decades. They ran the place when it was ITT, Excelis, Harris and L3HARRIS.
Even if you wanted a minute job it" had to go past somebody from that family."
Just ask Mikey, Joey, Pauly, or Angelo.
And if you didn't have the right last name, forgetaboutit

Are you related to someone? I don't remember if you mentioned your location, but in Clifton interns were not offered a full-time job unless they had a relative working there. If you don't think that's true, ask anyone who spent any time at that facility.

@w8 - let the young person experience L3H on their own, and when they finds that all the massive negativities on this site are true, it will be a good thing to experience, so he/she can see how heavenly good it is at other employers like RTX.

I talk from old bat experience, go any place put L3H, that place will make you a bitter old man after the first year you’re there.

I agree with the last comment. Don't get scared off by the negativity on this forum and give your internship your best shot. Many sites, departments, and teams are great (mine included) so the employee experience, like at any large company, is a mixed bag. If you don't like your team/job, don't return. But if you do, keep the chance of a return offer open. Either way, don't burn any bridges.

OP don't let the comments from the old bats on this site deter you. You'll gain solid experience and should look forward to your experience. I had some good experience with interns at the company and we do treat them well. You will most likely get an offer if you are interested but experience is valuable and you should leverage it at L3Harris and other companies that you are interested in. Good luck.

@OP well clearly you lack awareness if you're asking this question on this forum. So you'll do great and may even be the president soon.

@d6 so are returning full time offers not that common for interns at the company?

You can just take the experience and put it on your resume. If you get an offer, great, but as always consider all your options as a whole. Maybe it is less stable than other defense companies but if you are out of college, gain the experience, apply to as many places. and you can think about settling and exploring further later.
