Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Prepare Yourself!

NO bonuses this year. 2026 will be worse than 2025. Layoffs are going from quarterly to now every other month. This part has not been confirmed, but rumor is that Optum is going away and only UHC will remain.

@m6 I completely agree with you on this. I think out CTO is the main issue as he has no real qualifications for that role other than he can kiss a-s well.

@kh Optumserve has not won a major contract in years..as it’s tech is outdated. It’s a bloated company that is facing a day of reckoning soon ..especially with govt contracts getting high visibility for inefficiency

@ex In general true but there is a business line called Optum Serve that just does government contracting and does well financially. We used to be our own company when I started but have been gobbled up by the monster that is UHG sadly.

@ed
Optum has been trying unsuccessfully to branch out from UHC for years! Their products are mediocre, the product managers lack basic product development knowledge and there is minimal reporting and metrics becauseUHC is expected to just take Optum's products and like it for the good of UHG and the stock price. Optum products are the salad course and UHC insurance is the meat and potatoes for employers. You can skip the salad and still have a nice meal and your bill will be less. Wake up!

Optum is where UHC puts their profits, for accounting/tax reasons. Optum would su-k a-s wo UHC. I find it funny seeing comments that indicate the opposite.

@OP You should know what Medical Loss Ratio is. It's why Optum is not going away - unless it's cosmetic, ie just a re-name.

They'd more likely spin off Optum via an IPO to generate a temporary source of revenue.

It'd probably be wise for UHC and Optum to separate entirely so UHC/UHG can focus solely on insurance and bring IT in house instead of making it a separate division.

Optum can focus on providing add on services for insurance companies, hospitals, and doctor offices.

😂please. Optum is what is making United health group the money. United Healthcare is merely an insurance company. It cannot survive on its own. Optum also has direct business with other insurance companies and not just UHC. Optum isn’t going anywhere.

X,

Optum is the main profit margin bank for UHC. Until the ACA regs regarding the max profit margin allowed for health insurance providers change, Optum isn't going anywhere.

Who did you hear from that Optum might be going away? A manager, co-worker(s), someone else? That's a pretty big statement to drop without a source.
