Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Five months without a job

Nobody talks about how job hunting starts to eat at you after a while. You send out applications and hear nothing, and eventually you start questioning your own abilities. I used to know what I brought to a team. Now I'm not so sure. How do you hold onto your sense of self when the market keeps rejecting you?

It's been a year here, and it's a wasteland out there. Good luck

@aa not sure why you're downvoted TBH. AI is a joke but it's about what employers want to hear. if AI is what every company wants to waste money on, the best you can do is figure out how to talk about it. it's no different than how everyone needed to learn to code like 5 years ago.

@av I found LHH to be of no help at all, but glad you were able to use their resources. I think they are helpful for people who have not been in the job market lately.

Have you taken advantage of the LHH outplacement services that were offered in the severance letter? If not, just FYI, no one will reach out to you. You have to go in through that link they provided to access it. They are a huge help with using AI to rewrite your resumes to match the jobs you are hiring for. Not that it lies for you or anything like that but just focuses on your relevant experience to that position. It's one thing if you are getting interviews and not getting hired, which they offer tons of interview assistance as well, but if you arent getting the interviews or getting past these stupid Workday AI application apps, that means there's probably improvement needed on the resume side. Best of luck!

It is very challenging and agree it can feel demoralizing. I found it helped to partition time into blocks: network, apply for jobs, get outside or work out, and then volunteer. That helped me step into support for others and get out of my head a bit. But still had moments of doubt and ick. Hang in there.

It su-ks! But all you can do is keep trying and network. Hang in there!

@aa Hi, Sandeep. What does "embrace AI" mean? If it were such an awesome tool, wouldn't I be clamoring to use it? Wouldn't I naturally see how it could benefit me?

Use this time to learn new skills. Maybe pivot into something new. Embrace AI as well.

Sorry to hear it's taking so long.

It's scary as he-l, especially if you have any kind of dependents.

But don't make the mistake of assessing your value from corporate acceptance. They aren't your parents or teachers or anyone who 'cares'. They are out for themselves. Their judgment means nothing.

When you do get picked up by someone, you will, I'd recommend you don't feel personally validated, but be thankful you have an income stream. Basically keep the relationship between your employer professional. That's all you have a professional arrange with them.
