Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

Reconciling WARN notice with GM/GD layoff

WARN notice said 54 laid off in Baltimore alone. However, posts on this forum comment on ~59 laid off altogether from the Global Marketing and Distribution Enablement layoffs globally. Does that mean over 90% of cuts were in Baltimore alone?

Why don’t they layoff staff in EMEA and APAC? It seems unfair.

@324 I'm talking about the overall legal framework. It depends on the reason for the layoff. It's so hard to fire anyone that sometimes a RIF involves a single person given gardening leave and a payoff on legal basis of redundancy. With "real" RIFs involving teams there is usually a more genuine effort to find people other roles during the consultation. I think that's four weeks then your full notice period paid out plus the compensation in exchange for compromise agreement. That's just the UK. In France forget about it, job for life...which is why there are only tiny specialist teams in French finance.

@30q do y’all get gardening leave to layoffs in EMEA? Or is it just consultation period and then gone? I’m guessing the consultation period is short as well no?

Pretty sure it was over 100 people but in EMEA it doesn't count as a layoff until the whole legal process is complete, so they can't give a total number that is legally accurate. You get told your role is in a consultation period, which can be quite lengthy and gives you the right to apply for internal vacancies in other teams.

@bf even at 70-80, that’s a large majority being Baltimore impacted

I've seen the list of 59, but it didn't show what region those positions were in, just the business unit. I think those were just US.

Don't know why the WARN total was different.

There were actually a bunch of layoffs in EMEA and APAC this time, which is shocking because yes, T. Rowe always tries to avoid layoffs in EMEA especially because of strict labor laws. I think the total number of layoffs is closer to 70-80 people total, though it’s hard to be sure. But regulations are different in those regions so I’m not sure how they are reported, if they are even required to publicly report them in other countries or where.

@b4 Also surprised they sent us an email on Feb 6 about the layoffs. Guess with the WARN notice they couldn’t hide it this time…unlike all of the other weekly sneaky layoffs that have been going on since last summer. What a terrible company.

Isn't it harder to fire people in their countries? As always, dump the American workers and send the jobs to other countries. Shocking there was actually a WARN notice this time. Another big group will be gone at the end of February - those people were laid off late 2025 and have been training the "Accenture Partners". Our politicians need to get their act together and do something for American workers in the face of greedy companies.
