Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Just chiming in to share the joy of being laid off

This is the first weekend in god knows how long that I've spent completely carefree and relaxed. I know it might come back to bite me if I end up jobless for months, but I intend to enjoy this brief moment of freedom to the fullest. Yes, I felt like cr-p when I was told. But the feeling didn't last long. I realized quickly how much I'd lost perspective while being su-ked into TD. I deeply appreciated some of the great teammates I had, and definitely did not appreciate my most recent manager, the bad leadership that set the toxic culture, or the badly designed job. Anyway, I wish all the best to my now-jobless fellows and to my former colleagues.

best thing ever was getting laid off from TD. The mental pain wasn't worth it and you only realise what you were sufferring once out of the joint. Was good to get away from the failed texan and the lifers who grift their day by a$$ kissing.

Laid off on Tuesday and the joy is finally sinking in. Woke up this morning with no Sunday scaries for the first time in years. It’s crazy how complacent you can become in such a toxic environment. Already have 2 interviews lined up with significantly better companies. This layoff was a huge blessing, mad at myself that I didn’t leave sooner. Best of luck to you all still at TD, and for all those onto bigger and better things.

@OP can you tell me what you've done for Teradata? Separate yourself from the deadwood and tell us what you've done and prove why TD made the right call

Yes, it was a shock; however, I'm much more relaxed than I thought I would be. I've been laid off in the past, and the tension/anxiety/stress was a lot. This time, it's the wife who is stressed out.

For some of the teams, I really feel bad. Some of the teams lost big talent and deep knowledge.

@av Well aren’t we a bit wound up? I can understand that with you working at this dog of a company. But you have ba--s and are grateful for any scraps the bosses trickle down to you. What a wonderful career.

Best thing ever to happen in my TD career was being laid off.

  • Unemployment. 26 weeks at 1000/wk.
  • Severance. 10 weeks
  • Bonus. prorated next year
  • Stock Award. Full plus prorated following year.
All in all, I had a wonderful year off with pay thanks to being laid off. Then I retired.

Very happy for you. I was hoping to be laid off (Never in a million years did I think id be saying that having lived through a layoff during covid), but thats the point we're at. I realized I need out once I recognized I wasnt even getting the sunday scaries, the second I logged off on Friday, Id already be dreading monday. My partner has told me to just quit, and honestly if it wasnt for health insurance I would do it in a heart beat.
But hopefully we will all be able to find a better place to land soon!
