Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Staying far too long

After decades in the workforce, I thought I’d seen it all, until my time at Citi. I stayed way longer than I should’ve, missing the signs while the culture kept getting worse. The amount of spin and dishonesty up the chain was unreal. Looking back, leaving sooner would’ve saved a lot of damage.

I retired from Citi last year after 29 years, When I started back in the late 90's it was a great place to work. From the start of the Travelers "merger" until I left it got progressively worse. I left because I could not work there any longer and sleep well. In the end I understand its a business so the stock price is important, but its not everything. There are reasons why Citi lags the market in customer satisfaction--- it stems from how the front line employees are treated.

TLDR: It was once a great company, until it got too big to fail.

@ft My comment stands on its own. Not agreeing or disagreeing with him and I ignore the doom trolls. Just my perspective after 38 year of work including two fortune 100 companies. I will say that Citi came at the end of my career and was my first role in banking since way, way bank when I was in commercial lending at First Union. Objectively it’s the worst company I’ve worked for but for the hybrid opportunity.

Been here since 2006, it only turned super oppressive and infused with reverse gender bias and identity politics when Fraser took over. Hope i get RIF'd in March.

The day the email went out announcing the capping of the 401k match is the day, I decided apply for jobs. Happy I left...and got my $$$. It's probably what HR wanted and intended to do, so it worked for them. But I got my $$$.

Let’s face it for most work has been intolerable for far too long and it’s getting worse. . It’s a necessary evil no more. I worked 38 years but I maxed out my 401K contributed to a Roth and aggressively (thanks NVDA!) managed my rollover IRA. The last 2 years were all about putting the finishing touches. I just retired early and have lots left in the tank to enjoy it.

So save, save, save and do the needful as a means to an end. Citi su-ks but so do most big corporate jobs.

I'm glad you finally got out, my friend. I've been out a little longer than you and the grass is much greener on the other side. You shall RISE up.

But many say it is same everywhere. Greed has taken over honesty, kindness and ingenuity. Now best places to work are either private firms with fair owners OR for yourself.
