Thread regarding DIRECTV layoffs

Morrow all teams meeting yesterday

did anyone see it? Someone asked about job cuts, and he said we are 74 management employees over right now which is 2%, but our normal churn is 3% (people leaving on their own), so he doesn't expect any cuts this year.

His words not mine. Just curious with everyone posting rumors of huge layoffs coming this month, when is that going to happen because Bill says it isn't. I also asked my VP, and he said he hasn't heard anything about a layoff. He's told me about one every time way in advance when somethings up. According to him they are very pleased with financials, and we expect to be in the black by end of the year with customer acquisition and profits.

@10h for acquisition this is correct. For anything tied to base management this is not right. But in acquisition the transition has already largely happened so if cuts come they will hit all sides

@x9 i think most of the cuts will be on the satellite side. My department is 81% Stream. We barely support satellite anymore

@fd if we are 2% above where we need to be and next week we will issue 2-3% raises are we really needing to cut staff or is it just a leadership call

@c7 interesting. I also think a deal with DISH is about to be announced.

Bill said we were about 2% above where we need to be at the end of the year but that we also have another 90 new positions we are trying to hire. He didnt say no cuts just said a lot of this can happen organically.

That said, I have been told about a soon to be announced layoff in my org which I wont specify for anonymity and not knowing how many departments will be impacted. My manager and I both have no idea if either of us will be safe. There is also a reorg happening in my workspace. They will likely announce both at once.

Outsourcing might be a bigger threat than a traditional layoff this year.
