Battelle Energy Alliance Confirms INL Staff Reductions

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and its contractor confirmed recent employee layoffs. Battelle Energy Alliance initiated an Involuntary Separation Program. This program aims to reduce current workforce staffing levels. Fewer than 1% of INL employees were impacted, totaling under 50 positions. The company stated this aligns the workforce with national and Department of Energy priorities.

Idaho National Laboratory Announces Workforce Reduction

  • IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Idaho National Laboratory has begun a reduction in force.

  • INL spokeswoman Sarah Neumann said Battelle Energy Alliance determined that current staffing levels require adjustment through an Involuntary Separation Program.

Officials did not disclose how many employees will be impacted.

"BEA is continuously aligning Idaho National Laboratory's workforce with national priorities and the needs of the Department of Energy," Neumann said. "Our focus remains on maintaining the skills and capabilities necessary to fulfill INL's mission."

Idaho National Laboratory is the region's largest employer. As of February 2025, the laboratory employed more than 6,400 engineers, researchers, and support personnel.
