Anyone else here feel like their manager is constantly throwing work your way just to seem busy so the manager can appear like they had accomplished a lot of goals for the quarter??

I work in a technology role. I am fine with our local leadership, but the decades-old structure is that there are many many projects that are pushed down as required to do but are not funded at all. It is as if they think that these tasks can be done for free. My manager often does them himself but he also enlists help from the team. I wouldn't call it busy work, but it seems like pet projects that someone in power wants, often for no apparent reason. Some of them are even obviously ridiculous from a technology perspective.
Earlier in my career is used to think that locally a business unit or group could operate differently, ignore bad leadership & excel.
The reality is, that is not possible. Board and ex comm are responsible, over a long enough period, all outcomes are a result of their skill or lack thereof.
"How can YOU judge their skill. You couldn't do better!"
True, I probably couldn't. But it's just like in sports it's easy to see when somebody isn't up to standard even if I couldn't hit that standard myself.
@e1 what makes you think I'm not exceeding?
Work your a-s off to received a 3 performance rating. Good grieve!
Our Senior Director basically demand free labor on all sorts of things not included in projects.
I spent almost 20 years at MDT working as a SME and this pretty much sums up my career. I should have taken more classes on boot licking.
My entire purpose at this company is to justify the jobs of the directors and vps above me. I’ve accepted it and I’m giving up on trying to make it a real job.
