RMC - no more inline promotions

Just heard it from a leader in RMC that JR in RMC doesn't believe in inline promotions anymore. You have to get a new job in the bank to get a promotion. Of course that only applies to people who are not remote. The only people getting promotions in her area this year will be a very extreme small subset of what used to get approved. No more midyear off-cycle promotions anymore either.

The old days of treating employees like people are long gone. New culture is here to stay.

@f4 only the board can fire JR, but your point stands. I joined from a G-SIB and it’s honestly shocking how bad risk talent and culture are here, and it starts with her.

RMC has been in decline for the past several years under JR and her team of misfits. JR has backfilled all her directs with the worst of the worst at USB or rejects from other banks. Throw in a daily gallon of tequila and some companionship with a few of her directs, she could care less about any other employees. How GK hasn’t sent her packing surprises all of us.

Entire Technology is going through the same. No more in-line promotions for those who are remote. Even those hybrid or in-office are almost always denied. It is a sh-t show.

@ac Team manager downstream from her. Can confirm. I put in for 3 of my people to receive in-line promotions this cycle and all three were removed.

@aw getting a promotion inline in your job family going from branch manager 1 to branch manager 2 it comes with a grade bump, pay raise.

@ac "Does this mean she is removing inline promotions requested within this merit/bonus cycle?"

Yes, majority of the ones submitted.

Jr is vile. She also took .5% of off raises this year. Bank avg 3% but her org will be 2.5%. I think we all should take that into consideration while we decide how hard to work.

@OP

This works really well for people who self promote at the expense of actually doing their jobs. Expect to see the strivers and the climbers focused on superficial exposure and misrepresenting their accomplishments on their resumes as opposed to managing risk. It’s performance art now.

What does “inline promotion” mean? Is it like pay grade change within same corporate title or job title?
