Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Are you comfortable calling out for mental health reasons at work?

I just can't get myself to do it even when I know I desperately need it.

If you get booted, you lose the time

@jh right so I want to make sure I can meet those expectations every day that I work. So I take sick days.

Or stop being trash and actually work. You know at the place you agreed to work at including all the expectations given

You have 104 sick hours for yourself and 80 caregiver hours for your kids.

Those 104 are for YOU. YOUR mental health.

You can literally take 1 day per month.

@a5 yes! We all need to normalize this behavior. "I'm taking a sick day." Is a complete sentence. No further information is required.

Also, the "I'm doing it for my team attitude" caused me to pause, but then I realized I gladly encourage my team to take mental health days. The best way to show that its okay, is taking them yourself!

This is shocking and sad (if it weren’t for people’s tragedy, it might even be funny) that an empire like the USA still struggles with problems straight out of the Industrial Revolution era—where a regular employee is afraid to take a bit of time off when they need it, because someone might fire them. You supposedly live in a democracy, yet you still do what the boss with a whip tells you—work until you drop. Incredible.

My boss would be very supportive. I’ve taken a day or two when I really needed it. You should too and not worry. It’s highly unlikely to create an issue or negative view of you.

ALWAYS do what's best for you, not the company.

Few years ago i took mental health leave due to tragedy in my immediate household mixed with stress at work . Took short term leave and was laidoff with severance the day i came back.

I had two children while working at bony. This is withing the past five years. First kid, I took one week off. Was entitled to months. Second kid two years later, I took two weeks off, entitled to months. The year later, I got the ridiculous BE and pip n go. I didn't take my time bc I thought I was doing the right thing by the company and my team. Guess what, bony didn't give a F and in the end I just hurt myself and my family. Take your time if you need it. Bony doesn't care either way. I luckily found better employment and am much happier now.

It’s part of your benefits. Take the days off!

Skipping them will not save you!

Absolutely yes. Don’t give any reason when you take any of your time off. It is not the bank’s business whatsoever. Simply say “I’m taking a sick day today.” End of story. Then go do something for your mental health. You got this!
