@270 Balance removed for what, you either pay it and keep coverage or ignore it and they drop coverage. This isn't the IRS.

@23m I'd rather be proactive and not receive a bill than have to deal with trying to get a balance removed for something that could have been avoided.

@k7 Just because you get billed doesn't mean you have to pay it, if you don't pay it just won't renew. They will just keep sending you notices saying if you want to renew it costs X and to send in payment otherwise coverage will end on x date.

You don't need to do anything for COBRA (12/19 RIF here). VZ automatically enrolls for you. What you do need to do, however, is cancel any supplemental life insurance if you don't want to continue the coverage and pay for it yourself out of pocket after you leave because you will start receiving monthly bills for it. Also, once Verizon stops paying for your COBRA coverage, it will automatically renew and they will start to bill you for it directly so you should put a reminder in your calendar a few weeks BEFORE that date to prevent that from happening (unless of course you plan to continue paying for COBRA coverage because you need it).

@ct yes , your severance portal active 6 months and at the bottom are live links to benefits , work history for w2 ( which is not made clear you must opt for on line access every year , I had to wait for a mailed copy ) I logged on after access internally gone to view pay stubs , confirm free cobra , and look at pay checks coming to me

Cobra paperwork doesn't go out for a month. If you sign up you will be retroactively covered. Keep your receipts and you'll be reimbursed.

@OP not until after your last day on pay roll . Look thru your package documents and note sites to use after internal access gone , benefit site will have you confirm cobra choice
