Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Any idea when the notifications might start?

That is, if the layoffs are definitely happening this week.

@OP any bustling in the office today? Seems very quiet for a mass layoff.

@OP why are they not considering eliminating that huge, expensive building in texas that is half full? That has to be a huge, unnecessary cost.

@dj that's how it is now. Locals have to come in and remote workers do not. I don't agree with it.. but after two previous layoffs, they still haven't changed it.

@OP if you aren't dead set on continuing work for crown, taking the severance and looking for a new job is kind of a blessing. The company will probably be gone over the next 10 years. Get paid to do nothing while you job search. Sounds good to me!

@d6 it's almost worth just taking voluntary severance and looking for a new job. Seems like crown employees will all have to do that in the near future, regardless.

@dh you make it seem like there will be remote people left after this rift.

@at how is it fair to make people who live near the office come in more but allow some to work completely remote? I would give remote workers the option to move to a location near the offices or be layed off. You can't do to one what you don't do to everyone. Just seems like a ploy to make people take voluntary severance.

@bp why not? It’s called consolidation. That’s what industries do when they can’t grow. There are private tower companies doing much better and being preferred by the carriers. On top of that carriers aren’t spending the same on capex as they were 10 yrs ago when crown was good. My guess is Amt buys crown bc in a few years. Crown is a perfect take over target due to its large debt.

@b1 but we need to collaborate and work out with the ceo.

@b0+1kgmyzncg sold to who? That's not a rational option, unless you mean made private. They won't be sold to a competitor.

I keep checking my email every five minutes….will we be receiving notifications tonight?

Someone posted we should visit offices to see if we still have access…has anyone checked their badge after 5?

@b0 never forget Jay's Apollo moonshot presentation with small cell. Most of us laughed even back then!

Also, forcing return to office is intentional to try and get people to quit on their own. That way, they can report lower layoff numbers required for the WARN act.

As the partner to a ex crown employee who was laid off in 24 here is my 2 cents.
The job market is bad and you will need to pivot quickly.
Do not think you are above applying for unemployment and food stamps.
Get your financials in order now and get rid of any interest that you were paying. Meet with a financial advisor to help you streamline your budget.
Start networking now and get yourself out there because it’s not the application that gets you the job anymore it is who you know.

Wishing you all the best!

I was part of a RIF a couple of years ago. It was honestly the best thing that ever happened to me. Crown is a below average company, there’s plenty of other companies that will treat you better. Take your severance and smile.

@b4 Sorry for generalizing but there was plenty of people on this message board cheering for Elliot. It should be clear to everyone this was never about shareholder it was about wrestling the fiber business away for pennies on the dollar.. leaving Crown holding the bag. Elliot & private equity are the winners Crown employees and shareholders are the losers

@az Canonsburg was not cheering Elliott's dismantling of everything. We've seen it happen to other companies who Elliott targeted and know what it means.

@az what are you talking about they are going to streamline the customer experience. They are going to the moon lol. Crown will be sold within 3 years.

Funny the Cannonsburg crew was cheering when Elliot was dismantling everything because they thought it would protect them. Now Crown has no fiber, no small cell, no future and is dependent on three customers who are looking for alternatives.. The stock will be at 60 before you know it

I wonder how many are gonna come from “Canonsburg” (Freudian slip?). You know Houston hates them.

Emails went out today, 20% of towers and support staff, if your going you will be notified by end of day tomorrow. There will be severance and benefit continuation and you keep your 2025 bonus but that’s that. Also any not remote employees are to return to office four days a week. That’s the truth as of 30 minutes ago.

@ak its a blessing... does not feel like it now but in the long run we are all better for it. They thought more would resign due to such horrible expectations and did not expect most not all to step up. Others made your job harder and that # was a lot

They started and some make sense, some don’t; expect favoritism and targets. Not sure if it’s a blessing or not to get told you are in the 20% because this place is so toxic. Not sure what the package if yet or if there even is one.
