Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Trapped in a nightmare

I've never hated a job more. The toxicity is off the charts. If they announced layoffs, I'd volunteer. The severance would be the only good thing this place ever gave me. I need out, by any means necessary.

@fn agree. Hey, we are going to make your metrics unattainable but please be sure to take your breaks.

American workers in healthcare, insurance, Amazon, and similar industries are unhappy because the modern U.S. workplace demands more while offering less security, dignity, and voice. Productivity is high, stress is constant, and yet wages, staffing levels, and schedules often fail to meet basic human needs. Many workers are treated as cost centers to be optimized rather than people to be supported.
History shows that when workers unite, they gain fairer pay, safer workplaces, and more predictable lives. Unionization is not about opposing business; it is about restoring balance. If American workers stood together, they would not just improve their own lives—they would help rebuild a healthier, more sustainable economy.
That’s why countries with stronger labor organization (like many Scandinavian systems) often report:
• Less worker stress
• Better work-life balance
• Higher trust in institutions

True, it's a very toxic environment. Please don't let rude people steal your peace and take away your soft nursing job. Use the EAP to work with a counselor to develop ways to protect your peace in the toxic environment. It's ok to take your time and be on "busy". It's ok to take time in between proving care for patients to refill your cup. Always remember that you are serving your members and not your leadership. That goes for any role. Counseling with the EAP can give good advice and tactics. Like Grey Rock method, or not taking on your leaders stress ball and leave it in their court.

I hope you find a way out. Luckily, I did. And I couldn’t be more grateful.

Humana is toxic as cyanide and it’s only getting worse. Rapid decline starting in late 2022. Eventually they’ll be a clone of UHG in that benefits will be cut, RIFs will occur monthly , severance minimal, no raises, pittance of AIP and no one to do the work.

This place is toxic AF. HUGE deterioration in culture. Management is out of touch, basically bullying care managers with call avoidance accusations, distracting CMs with multiple posts across different team chats about the autodialer status, who's in busy, who's on queue, who's idle. Meanwhile ,the directors and multiple managers have nothing better to do than watch the dialer and harass the CMs that are trying to care for the members. Coming down to quantity over quality. Med recs consents are tanking and so will audit scores with all this nonsense. Is it all a plan for bad EOY reviews and take away AIP from CMs? They're chasing loyal employees out the door.

Utilization Review department has gone to he-l. Forcing WAH associates to take an hour for lunch is absolutely ridiculous. Several of staff are asking ethics hotline to get involved for this along with other abuses. Many of us want out and hope for a layoff. Don’t say go find another job as you know sometimes it’s not that simple.

I can relate as I felt that way too in a couple of departments (mainly in SNP) so my advice is to try to either move to another department or look outside for employment, but in the meantime document any negative or toxic interactions on your personal phone or laptop to keep track. Also use the free courses available to improve your resume. Try to stay positive and remember this is just a job and not your whole life. Use PTO to get a break. Use employee assistance EAP for counseling. This too shall pass.

It’s easy to say just quit. One issue with that is, finding an another job with same or similar pay. The older you get and the longer you work at a company, the harder it is to find a job with similar pay. This has been a very stressful time for a lot of people and it has been this way for several years.

@a4 sure, Jim. If only I can get some of that $15 mil salary? It'll help spare me from being crushed by the weight of the material conditions that are keeping me here in the first place. It only needs to cover groceries, mortgage, utilities, childcare, healthcare costs, and maybe a little bit of money to cover the cost of a toy for my kid.
