I remember when I just started working, I was so full of energy and ambition, with all these plans and hopes for my career. I got disillusioned within two years and now I feel sick to my stomach when I think that this is something I'm stuck with for nearly my whole life.

If your first corporate job is at BNY then your entire worldview is going to be skewed. BNY is the bottom of the barrel. Work is always going to svck, but man BNY makes the svck even svckier. The svckiest. Bust on out of there while you're still young, don't give them the best years of your life!
I was let go at BNY after 16 years. I had great ratings till GS group came in and found a replacement. I was given 2 bad consecutive bad ratings but unfortunately I developed a serious health condition and they could not use performance as the basis. So I was let go after 3 months after surgery. I joined this new company and absolutely love my job. I worked hard - a lot less than what I did at BNY and now I am lined up for promotion based on my accomplishments. If you are young, never work for company and build your own thing. If you are middle aged, keep looking out. BUT THIS COMPANY IS NOT GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH
Corporate life can feel soulless when the work is repetitive and disconnected from real human impact. Without meaning or connection, even a full day of effort can leave you feeling strangely empty. Imagine decades of this. That’s why so many especially the Z generation don’t want to work for some giant corporation. They will redefine the future.
At BK? When incompetent after incompetent got promoted (or hired) for being friends with the boss.
I have hobbies, interests and family. This cr*p is nothing to aspire to. It is just “going to the restroom”- you have to. I laugh at all the young people with accounting degrees and “going for their Master’s”- good luck doing this stuff for decades to come; until you expire. I am glad I am done with this stuff for good in a year.
@a5 you made my day "You're just in transformation land with bad actors stuffing suitcases full of money before the end game"... I was literally on the floor laughing. Also these fake RV linkedin posts, one with the recharge photo of some barren snow field in the middle of nowhere...
As soon as RV took over along with several below him. They have completely destroyed this place and moral. And have literally pushed out staff that have knowledge to bring in college analysts who dont want to work. On top of bringing in GS folks who are also pushing out legacy bny folks to pull in their pulls. Never hated a place more in my life
I’ll say this. I was starting to think every company was like BNY. I left in June and my new company is so much better. I’ll be it. It’s a much smaller company as well… 2000 employee employees
That being said, I agree. Corporate life su-ks, which is why I’ve nudged both of my daughters to stay away from corporate jobs and get into the service industry. Less chance of AI or an Indian taking your job working for peanuts & no a--hole ceo breaking in $20 million thanks to your hard work
if most people had enough money to live then i bet most of us would stop showing up immediately
Hang in there, it's not the same everywhere or for your entire career. You're just in transformation land with bad actors stuffing suitcases full of money before the end game. To answer your specific question, for me it was when CS. took over as CEO of BNY Mellon.
Life is what you make of it. Same with your career. Stay positive and work hard and good things will more than likely happen. This place is a drag but don't let it rob you of your joy and purpose in life. Find your purpose and stay convicted. Good luck and God Bless!
