A friend was offered a promotion with a move recently, and I'll say here what I told him. Even with a promotion, moving for this company is a terrible idea. Layoffs are hitting everyone, and you'd be putting your family through a lot for a job that might not last. I wouldn't do it. In fact, I think it's the stupidest move somebody could make right now.

@cc then you should. Rto notices are few and far between now. Many are surplussed on first notice. HQ already told us where to be.
I know of one person who moved for AT&T and then was laid off anyway shortly after. There is no way anyone should move for them. I would just keep working from home until they fire you.
@am This isn't the case at all. I'm sure we can all point to one or two people that moved to Dallas and were then surplussed.
I would move to keep my job.
Verizon is sitting at 85k employee count and t is over 130k. That means 1 on 3 wil be surplused. I would move.
@am "you will only be asked to move if they want to retain you"
LMAO. If they wanted to retain you they would PAY to relocate you. If you are asked to move today, they are laying you off. Moving on your own dime is ridiculous unless you are getting a six figure pay bump.
@am that’s sad if you believe your answer. It’s a tax incentive for the company only!
One key thing to remember is that you will only be asked to move if they want to retain you. There are never any guarantees with at will employers but you should be fine for at least a year or two after moving. Relo was right for me.
If you still want him to be your friend, it would be better to knock some sense into him by whatever means possible than let him move for this sh1t of a company
I'd think 100 times and after all that you think you still might want to move, I'd think another 100 more times.
If you get promoted and relocate, you’ll be stepping into a team where you’re the least established and the least familiar face. That puts you at a disadvantage: when a company needs to cut costs, the people with the weakest internal networks are often the first to be let go. do not make the move!
@a6
NOTHING!
100% agree. There is nothing I trust about this “leadership” team right now.
