Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

This job is affecting my health

I keep waiting for the constant stress here to ease up, but it never does. How did we all accept that a job should make us feel this unwell? It feels like a standard part of the workday now and it's not right.

Cisco is maybe the most toxic work environment in modern Tech. The outside world is so much better. The market is tough at this particular time, but if you can get out - do it. Your mental and physical health (and the dependencies you developed while there) will thank you for it. Cisco is losing everywhere, it's time to go build something again. That place will whither and die.

This is life in the silicon valley with most people, especially ones who have a huge mortgage and are trapped. I was this way there for over 20 years. Not enough to retire, but have too high an income to leave. The idea is to pace yourself for the long haul, medicate, do CBD's or even THC in the off times to come down. Then pop the anti-anxiety meds during business hours. Hope to stay out of the ER and not alienate people while controlling your stress.

Worked at Cisco a very long time; heavily medicated. Anxiety and blood pressure. Jacked.

Eventually restructured. One year after leaving, all vitals perfect. What changed?

  • No longer had a complete id--t for a boss.
  • No longer had texts, instant messenger, calls all the time.
  • No longer had drama; last minute changes, last minute escalations, often by a manager that did not know cr-p about much. Amazing he was able to gain the manager role in the first place. Narcissist.

People can vote this post down, but Cisco IS, for many hard working people, a TOXIC work environment. Get roped under a POOR manager, and you are DOOMED.

Get out if you are miserable. I am SO glad my time there is over.

To you jack___ managers: F--- O--.

I’m right there with you…..I eventually concluded that I’ll be here as long as I’m here and if another human being feels authorized to affect my life, f’ em. The paycheck is the same, my family is the same (and my priority), life goes on and I can live on unemployment benefits if it comes to that. I’ve worked for Cisco a very long time and I often tell people early in their careers to only think of Cisco as a paycheck and to understand anything they do professionally that is incredible and rewarding in this world and in your life, will almost certainly be with a different company

The cisco environment created 2 life-threatening conditions during my 20+yr tenure. No job is worth your health and sanity. I finally learned that by putting up boundaries & they saw fit to lay me off because of it.

You shouldn't worry about things you can't control but you should plan & save for the unexpected.
