You can come back but you forego any remaining severence and your start date is your return date. Vacation benefits and time employed at the company all starts over.

Normally, your exit contract will say you need to wait a year before you can be rehire. You are better off growing elsewhere.

They will check /notify your former manager if they’re still with the company but yes I’ve seen it happen

I'm aware of 3 people that have. All different circumstances, but the answer is yes.
