Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Former AIG employee

Long story short, I left AIG for more $ and to expand on my insurance knowledge with different lines. AIG actually has the best PTO benefits out there the pay raises su-ked from my experience. I am looking to come back to AIG. What is the chances I would be hired back being a former employee and fully remote like it used to be?

I was forced to take a severance package because I was a fully remote (and hired as such) employee who would not agree to RTO. So there's zero chance you'll get a remote position. I've looked at their recent job postings and they all say "we value in person collaboration " and require 4 days in the office.

Plus, why would you want to go back to that he-l hole???

You don’t want to come back to AIG it’s better on the other side. Management is a disaster and I’ve seen some good colleagues leave left and right the company is a failure

@v8 a job in a manufacturing plant is pretty simple, repetitive and straight forward, the first robot workers are being deployed everywhere while we speak, just read the news.
office jobs are also often repetitive in some aspects but mainly they are too complex for computers that are being heavily overstimated, office people liaise with humans and humans hate to speak with chatbots, in a plant it doesn't matter if a press is operated by a human or a robot

@bf A little over 2 years ago. Sounds like it hasnt gotten any better with management. However I did apply but I got my "rejection" email. It was for the Job I used to do and they said "I dont have enough background" lol okay May need to redo something with my resume with all this AI stuff with applications being just kicked out.

@s9 are you kidding? AI will impact more white collar jobs than blue collar. I don’t see AI fixing my plumbing or constructing an addition to my house. Most articles call out the impact to white collar jobs and not blue collar jobs. And return to work has been around since 2022 much before AI got hot.

@s9 AI is not mature enough to replace anybody whose job is not akin to data capturing or performing repetitive tasks. Companies have been trying to do so and failing in the process.

@qr the return to office policy is just an excuse to fire people before the great layoffs wave due to AI. AI will likely replace blue collar workers but I'm not so sure it will replace the white collars at the same pace

Fully remote would require the CEOs permission and I’m not joking. Most companies are moving back to the office more than AIG requires. If you have fully remote job I would ride that out as long as you can if it’s important to you. Otherwise they are always happy to have people come back if you were liked. Good luck.

I had one foot out and decided to stay precisely because of that and the rest of the benefits. I'd have to get a substantial pay raise to match what I would lose by switching companies. I changed my mindset around work and has worked out for me so far. Hope you manage to come back.

Fully remote is a pipe dream unless the new CEO has a different view. We rehire former employees but you likely will need to be in one of the primary locations and expect to come back into the office

Rehire happens all the time.

Zero chance fully remote unless something changes under thr new CEO.

Loads of people leave AIG and come back, but if seems like fully remote is gone in most places.

When did you leave AIG? Things have gotten a lot worse over the last 4-5 years so it may not be the place you remember.
