Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I'm glad I refused to relo

I left, and I was lucky to find a decent job. I can imagine the extra anxiety people who relocated have been going through. After the expensive move and all the other costs, including to your social life and consequences for family members, the very real possibility of losing your job anyway must be eating at people. Companies truly treat us like trash.

In my situation my offer and options were to accept the relocation offer and move to 1 of 4 core locations within 1 year, or refuse the relocation, in which case I would be laid off within the next 60 with full severance.

Once I chose an option and signed the agreement i could not change my mind at a later point. So if I said yes and then changed my mind and refused to move I'd be laid off with no severance.

If I get laid off after accepting or after moving I am entitled to full severance and the demo benefits that were paid out are forgiven and do not have to be repaid.

Mine was a 2 year commitment. If I leave within the first year the full relo amount has to be paid back; if I leave in the 2nd year 50% has to be paid back.

From what others have shared with me the terms may vary depending on where you work and level.

@ay if one refuses the relocation offer, do they also get laid off later and get the severance package?

At least if I get laid off after moving I still have 14 months sev and don't have to pay back the tell cash. I can move back myself for a lot less than what they paid to move me.

Being new at a new company is no more or less safe - but last in first out is still a concern and likely little to no sev.

Risk both ways. Choose your path and poison. If I was younger and expected to work a while I'd leave. But I'm not and I don't so....picked my best path. And know exactly what its like and what to expect and not expect.

What was the purpose of this post? To brag about a good decision. You may have been better off relocating - there is no way to know

I relocated and for me far less anxiety remaining employed with a descent salary and benefits than trying to reenter the workforce at my age and finding a decent paying job in my former non-core location. Gets me to my overall goal of retirement in 2 years.

Everyone makes their own decision. Good for you and happy it worked out for you!
