When CenturyLink (now Lumen) announced its acquisition of Level 3 Communications in late 2016, Level 3 had approximately $11 billion in debt, with the total deal valued at around $34 billion, including debt. CenturyLink planned to maintain Level 3's existing debt structure, with some new financing for the cash portion, and Level 3 didn't take on additional debt for the transaction itself.

@19z sorry to say but Level3 had no debt. If anyone was carrying debt it was CTL because of all the debt they acquired from Embarq and Qwest. Especially Qwest. All the fines that CTL had to pay for not following through on their contract obligations to the Government funds for following the agreement to put internet in every rural area in it's region. That is easily verifiable by financial and government records. Level3 saved CTL that's fact.

And everyone knows it was a level 3 hostile takeover. That's why Jeff forced Glenn out.

You probably don't remember Jeffs last global town hall. You could feel something was up.
When you get emails that say so and so is leaving and a few days later someone else is taking their place, they were forced out.
Last year's annual report lists 2 SLT members that were fired. This years report will be interesting.
CEO "refreshed" the SLT. In other words, surrounded herself with yes people.

Good grief…level 3 didn’t buy ctl. Such easily verifiable information. Ctl purchased level 3 including their 11billion dollars in debt for a cash and stock transaction worth 34 billion dollars.
@130 wrong. A majority of the leadership left in place was CenturyLink. So if you want to talk about executives tanking the company that would be CTL. One reason the L3 CFO left he knew what a cr-p show CTL books were and how hard it would be to pull them out. The only reason CTL and L3 merged was because L3 was operating in the green and had the money to buy CTL who was operating in the red. L3 saved CTL. Why do you think Glenn Post and the CTL CFO were removed. Again all the executives made stupid decisions to change the company from a Telecom company to a Technology company and rebrand it. A waste of money and resources, that could have been better spent. So we can agree to disagree on whose at fault. Fact is the Executives made stupid decisions that are tanking the company.

Mandatory was capped after the strike in 98. Before that it was wide open 7 days a week. You dont know anything. In fact they had to give us the 21st or 22nd day in a row off. At least in my state.

Their cell phones drive their business. The ship sailed when QWEST/US West sold the wireless. That’s where the investment in expansion might of payed off. Hindsight is 20/20
They were all clown shows. Level 3, CenturyTel, and Qwest. No clue at any of them other than deal making to prolong going belly up. Eventually they all ran out of checks in the checkbook.
Level 3 was the worst purchase decision ever! As soon as L3 took over things went down the drain, metrics and micro management instead of skill development. Spend most days cheating, gaming, and creaming the system instead of actually doing worthwhile work. Not to mention L3's favorite activity, canning people and D E I nonsense. The place is nothing more than a modern day sweat shop.

Level3 brought $45B in debt with them... CTL, even with Qwest merger, did not. Same CEO that decided the $2B investment to change the "lipstick on the pig" was a fantastic call! Thus, CTL CEO pushed out 1 year early so Storey could have unabated control of the vision!
The main id--t running the company that put us in this situation was Jeff Storey aka level 3
People that blame Level3 for this downfall need to take a hard look. This wasn't Level3. Honestly Level3 was better off without Centurystink. But they went through the merger anyway. They the higher up geniuses made a horrible decision to waste $2 billion dollars and try to change the dynamics of CTL from telecom to a technology company, stupidest decision ever. They could've used that money to upgrade the network. Invested in better innovation. Look at Verizon and AT&T. They are still operating as RBOC's and didn't have to sell off almost every part of the company to stay afloat. I was around when Joe Nacchio tanked Qwest. So when you have stupid people running companies that make stupid decisions what do you expect to happen. So stop blaming Level3, stop blaming CTL, and blame the id--ts running the company into the ground.

@kd In the business office in joe n days, mandatory ot was 8 1/2 hours a week Monday thru Friday with no weekends.
@kd Early 90s is more then 28 years ago.
And it was in the union contract at the time. Time and a half up to 9 hours and double time after that. 30 minutes was in case calls ran over.

Sure do squirt. Also remember getting meal vouchers for working past 7 pm. The mandate of work til the work is done. Closing out on my 965 at 7 pm and calling in to dispatch to find there’s 400 jobs still in the load. Handing out cell phones to customers because we couldn’t put cable in fast enough. Held orders for months. 4 item lsts to free a pair to do a donor udc. Which was an upgrade to the Amls that no one ever knew where the filter was. Usually found 2 poles away. Yea squirt, I remember all that.
