Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Anybody else having a cr-ppy weekend?

I can't relax, I can't watch my favorite shows, I can't even play with my kids without getting agitated. We're supposed to be able to rest and recharge our batteries over the weekend, not worry about the layoffs all the time and whether we're about to be jobless. I really hate this place.

Please don't let this place steal your joy. It's hard enough to deal with it during work hours, but don't let creep into your home life, especially robbing you of time with your kids. That's time you won't ever get back. Trust me I have learned the hard way by compromising my health due to stress of this place..it took me a very long time but I've retrained my brain to stop worrying about things that are out of my control. Yes this is still a cr-ppy place to work for but I'm done letting it control my life and my mental health has gotten much better as a result

I haven’t been able to relax since at least 2023. This place is awful. And now it seems they want us to start to pull a 12 hour day. I’ve got news for them. If I have to start early I’m leaving after 8 hours or vice versa! With all this wonderful AI that doesn’t work, they want us working on multiple clients with less people and act like it’s working while in actuality they have us working around the clock while giving us no OT or raise to make up for it. They laid off all the OT eligible levels!

Start looking around for another job if you can.

I was in the same position as you quite a few years back when most of my team got laid off. I just kept working on the things I could manage, such as saving as much as possible and getting an emergency fund in place.

The stress has gradually eased, and at this point if they laid me off I'd be fine. Try not to worry about the things you can't change, just focus on doing what you can to prepare for the future. I'll be so glad to leave this place, whenever it happens.

Yes.
It is called anxietal psychological trauma. You are a well conditioned adult person who is results oriented and you are expending a lot of effort and spending your life’s time trying to do well for your family. You need stability and work hard for it. But you do not get that here. You constantly feel threatened and pressured and most of all—- unsafe. One person here said PTSD and it is true but more than that. This is shellshock because it is still going on whereas PTSD is after the trauma. It is unnatural and wrong to feel like this. You need to find a good psychologist and talk it out. Soon you will get insomnia and when you do sleep you will have bad dreams about falling or doing ultra violence on your manager. This is a very bad and mentally damaging place. Worse- this is all being done deliberately.

My doctor said I have PTSD from this workplace, if you still have a long-term career ahead, please look for a new job. For some of us close to retirement or who want to retire early, maybe looking for an exit strategy.
This place has become very toxic, I am not sure if it is legal… the company seems have a strategy to push people out without a package.
Please take care of your mental health, make sure to use the 12 sessions of free therapy, and take the useful training classes to improve your skills and get out of this place. Good luck to everyone who has been struggling and mistreated!

@OP - been there and have felt it. I had a very bad weekend in the summer of 2025. After an especially bad weekend, I was told on the next Monday morning that BNY was suddenly laying me off. If my experience is any consolation, after a few months of looking, I got a better job, slightly higher salary and am now much much more calmer. Just recognize that this is a known unknown. Don’t try to worry about an event that may or may not even happen. In the end, the event that you are most concerned about will have no material effect. BNY is a way to earn a livelihood. No more no less.
