Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

What's happening with IOL expats?

What's the latest on the IOL expats? Seems like many of them were in scope and were going to be getting communication, as it sounds like the company wanted to reduce the number of expats. Any updates? Are many of them coming back to take jobs back at sites or the office back in Canada? Staying where they are on expat? I'd be surprised if any of them would be getting let go, but stranger things have happened.

@OP I am also currently on assignment in US, less than a year in and moved family. Haven't heard anything and same with others I know in US. Others I know including myself are getting paid way less than the US counterparts too because of the exchange rate mainly. I haven't been told anything more than what's in the FAQs. Just know the BU needs us badly and they were shocked by all this too.

Have any expats received word yet? I heard a rumour a few CL expats have been recalled.

Expats already know their fate. They were told back in Oct if they were in scope or not. So 50% not in scope will remain on expat and will not receive any communication this month (business as usual).

The 50% in scope will be told if they are impacted and when to expect to be repatriated if they are being given a job in Canada. I assume a certain % in this bucket will be given separation letters as well, although it will be less than the locals in Canada.

I heard that approximately 50% of Canadian expats are “in scope” and will be repatriated to Canada no later than YE27. They were included in the selection process along with all the those currently in Canada. One difference is they did not receive a mobility survey and were assumed to be mobile to anywhere in Canada, not just their home location. Also, if they are offered a position anywhere in Canada and turn it down, they are NOT eligible for severance.

Theyve said because expats were mobile to leave Canada, that then they are mobile within Canada. Some that will be brought back will potentially fill vacant or untaken roles where needed (mobile do not necessarily return to originating location). Probably will get communication towards the end of the month pending acceptances.

Most are being sent back. There are a few who get to stay on assignment, however.

@ba
They will probably remain since their would usually be lower than most Canadian but especially US expats.

@OP I am currently on assignment and haven’t heard squat. Word is we are all going back regardless if we have a job or not.
