Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Layoffs

It’s very quiet in our area. I am wondering what’s going on. Awhile back people were talking their heads off now it’s quiet as a mouse around here. Work is is slimming down and all is being said is leadership is busy. Something seems off

@aa - Any American company accepting federal and state tax dollars paid by American people should not be allowed to " offshore " any jobs resulting in job loss for American workers in my opinion.

@1pc What area did you work in before the 12/23 layoff?

@OP I was part of the Dec 2023 layoffs and our VP was always busy or at a meeting in St Louis, work slowed, our team was split up and then a few weeks later we got the infamous HR speech. 3 month severance and that was it. No goodbye or good luck, no one wanted to talk about it. It's a horrible gut sinking feeling and to make matters worse I've applied to over 3500 jobs since then without an offer.

Didn't someone on here say layoffs will happen by January 29th??? Is that still true?

All this doom and gloom may actually not occur. At least at the initial levels I anticipated. The government is going to fix the subsidy issue if for no other reason than their own political survival. There will still be marketplace membership loss to a degree and, subsequently, RIF to a degree. AI isn’t going away either. But I am no longer seeeing mass layoffs as the likely outcomes. Of course, if they lay off one person and it’s you, then my theory is relative.

@cs So that makes it okay, because it’s in a different state?

People Leader (here) that recently promoted employees. The comments here must be in a different state.

@an I am in marketplace. And it’s definitely slowed down since the beginning of the year.

Calibration is happening, reviews are being competed, and final decisions to confirm who to cut and when are being made. Most of that was decided in Q3/Q4 last year.

@ab what are you talking about ? Lol, you have misinterpreted the whole post trying to be a smart butt. I am saying I do feel like there will be layoffs and what I meant by work trimming down is saying we don’t have anything to do in our dept. and the writing is on the wall. Leadership is avoiding communication. Right back at ya Pollyanna and you dream big too lol.

@a2 “From what we are hearing”. Is this a serious post or some middle manager lackey vetting to earn favor through cheerleading? You think they are just going to tell you the ship is sinking? It will be fine, right up to the minute it’s not. Likewise, you will be employed, right up to the minute you are called into a Teams meeting with your People Leader/Boot Li---r and a HR representative. But, go ahead Pollyanna. Dream big.

@OP What’s going on is the continued bifurcation of our economy. For all the Sarah haters out there, the stock has rebounded nicely and is up almost 40% over the last six months. Meanwhile, ACA members…or is that former members…can’t afford their premiums, their copays, their medicines. As for layoffs, people are delusional if they don’t think the combination of less plan members across the board plus the advancement of AI and outsourcing/offshoring isn’t going to lead to massive layoffs. Industry wide.

We are growing and hiring more employees. Nothing to fear from what we are hearing.
