Cobra insurance mistakenly cancelled and very long holds with Verizon Benefits Center

I was rif'd on Dec 19 and Verizon mistakenly cancelled my insurance as of Jan 1. Anyone else have problems with their insurance coverage? They had to submit paper work to reinstate my insurance. I was on hold to get through to Verizon Benefits Center for almost an hour.

@bh Read your letter and you’ll see you have no coverage after 12-31-25.

I signed severance mid December for last day 12/31. Prompted to enroll in COBRA on benefits site , so I did .. total was $0 cost to me at the last screen … does it even matter if we are all auto enrolled as well ?

@OP - "I was on very long hold to get through to Verizon Benefits Center for almost an hour."

Now you see how a Verizon customer feels. The company’s customer service is absolutely horrendous. Then if you manage to somehow get thru you transferred between departments like a ping pong match.

Agree with last poster. I can see option to elect COBRA now, but I suspect that's because all the Severance paperwork didn't go through, or someone made a mistake on the Benefits website. Just a guess, but it reads like thats really and truly enrolling in COBRA and paying through the nose. When I visit Anthem, my Healthcare shows as active and all deductible tracking flipped back to zero for 2026.

I wouldn't enroll in COBRA yet, unless someone in HR confirms that's a necessary step.

It is automatic. There is no requirement to enroll. If you log into Anthem you will see your coverage.

If you have a valid Severance Agreement and Release, you will automatically be
enrolled in COBRA coverage and the Company will pay the cost of COBRA coverage

@OP you have to enroll in Cobra. The Company pays but you still have to enroll.

I have been on hold for 46 minutes. Guess Dan isn't addressing the internal cr-ppy customer service.
