My direct manager got promoted with zero training and no real leadership skills. I was micromanaged on minor tasks, while big project decisions went unchecked. Communication always felt passive-aggressive, and any mistake I made got used against me in performance reviews. Favoritism ran rampant. People who constantly flattered the manager got all the praise, while those actually performing well were ignored. And he's now in an even higher position. Make it make sense.

@ce Optics over outcomes, baby. If you are a brown-noser and find ways to make yourself visible and heard, then you are what the bank now values as rising talent. If you make sense, do your job well and are focused on the right things, well then good luck... you are expendable. Give this comment a thumbs up if you agree.
This is called management at BNY now.
You do not need to be hands on. You do not need to know how to manage or what the apps do or how to resolve problems through others.
As long as you are loud, conceited, talk nonsense and can nag and annoy, you are set.
If you are a woman or a person of color and can be loud and nonsensical, that’s a bonus.
Micromanagement and passive aggression runs rampant. Thee most toxic place I've ever worked.
It sounds like my job at a different company. Your skilled mastering of your job won't be paid well by your company. They want a clown they can control at their circus. If they promoted you, who would do your job well then? Best to move on for an offer ar another bank.
