Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Have any of you had a positive experience with the job search?

I’ve been looking for another job for months now, partly as a precaution and partly because I really need a change. But it’s incredibly depressing out there. I’ve been genuinely trying, and I’ve managed to land a grand total of one interview. Has anyone had better luck?

@q6 I met with a leader of the large payroll processing company a few years back. He said he would never hire anyone from XRX because none learn any transferable skills and its too easy to work here. I think he set up the lunch just to bust my ba--s, but I did not disagree.

Have been in the market for a year and a half. Haven't had an interview in 10 months with hundreds of applications. Easily the worst job market in decades. Hundreds of applicants for 1 job.

@OP
I was laid off in the October cull. No reason other than 24 years. I am an older gent, but not ready to retire. Took two months of applying as a full time job before a suitable opportunity came along. One interview with them and they hired me straight away as a production tech. Had lots of interviews prior. If you are laid off Xerox does provide 3 months employment assistance. I didn't find the my rep very helpful nor any of the webinars or training. But the resume service is invaluable. Use it. Get multiple versions depending on what you want to hire into. Good luck. I'm moving on.

I’m beginning to suspect that in WNY/Monroe County, the mention of Xerox on the resume is equivalent to a felony conviction. So many employers have seen enough of the process-bound, lean-six culture employees who underperform at their new jobs tha there is now a general distaste for anyone ex-Xerox. This affects the job seekers who are actually productive in a big way. Another way that mgmt has sc--wed employees over, under the guise of self-improvement and process optimization.

Took me a year and roughly 200 applications but I’m finally in the running for 2 excellent positions.

@fd Worst one I had was an AI interview. I was asked questions then told I hadn’t answered the correct question! I turned it off and told the employer I wasn’t interested

I've been applying since January... I had ONE interview, and ended up not moving forward after interview 3 because they were looking for someone to do the job of 3 people AND build the process all on their own... for way too little pay. 200+ applications later and I am burnt out. I've spent countless hours tailoring my resume for every job, writing and rewriting cover letters, filling out application after application... all for nothing. Here I am with over a decade of experience under my belt, a college degree, and at this point it feels like I couldn't even get hired at the local McDonalds

What I learned from attending job fairs is your resume gets prescreened before anyone actually looks at it. If there is not enough key words in your resume you won’t even get considered.

@OP your age and location have a lot to do with it. Employers seem to want young, cheap, and obedient these days. Over 50 in Monroe County is a bad combo. I finally just started me own business. Top performer at XRX but could not get a job anywhere else.

@OP How long have you been with Xerox, and what products have you experience with? Any college or trade school?
I retired 4 years ago, and I immediately landed a job, but I had been with the company since 1983, always in Printing Systems.
