Did you rent first to get a feel of the neighborhood or did you buy out of state and move?

A lot of Indians in Frisco also have multiple rent houses they own for incoming transfers. They might want to cut you a deal !
I am planning a family vacation in Dallas and Fort Worth over spring break next year to get a feel for Texas. I have wrapped plane tickets as family stocking stuffers this Christmas.
There are a lot of folks I know who moved last summer to ATL, NJ and Dallas and they are still employed. It is lucky for them that their spouses jobs have transferred too with work from home and are doing good. Some moved their families and some moved alone. May be it depends which group you are employed with and the visibility in that group
Don’t buy! Rent! You may only last there about 6 months. Make no mistake if you’re asked to move then it’s the same as being asked to leave
Rent out your current home and then rent in Dallas for a year. Especially if you have kids.
OP To answer your question I’d say rent. Best case you don’t want to be stuck in an area of town you don’t like and find it difficult to get out.
That said, my “official” recommendation is don’t move for T!!! They don’t care about you. They want you gone. If you don’t take the bait when they say move, they will come up with some other excuse. And you’ll be surplused anyway.
I saw it happen to a friend of mine on another team. He moved to Dallas and 6 months later, bo-m…laid off.
Be careful with this decision.
I worked with someone (at another company) in NYC and he was relocated to Jacksonville, Fl (move or no job). He commuted from PA to NYC every day prior. He rented a house in FL with his family and tried to sell the PA house - no luck. So he has a mortgage and rental to pay. After a year he felt comfortable and decided to buy in FL. He got a home equity loan - so now 3 payments. A little over 6 months later he was surplused. It was too much for him. He committed sui**. Companies do not care... You are only a number to them.
@bw 10 years is a long time. I am super confused. If I don’t move, they will fire me. If I move, they will fire me. If I move to the wrong location, they will fire me and they themselves don’t know what’s the right location because my boss changes locations. This is effin stupid. I need to focus all my energy on finding another job.
i moved to dallas 10 years ago for my job and was just laid off. don't do it.
I would not relocate if I were you, you are likely to still get laid off shortly after- happened to my colleague
I am tired of renting for this company. Why can’t they effin decide where they want to keep their employees? Stank should be fired immediately

Just buy in Dallas - immediately. No need to speculate, overthink, or pretend you’re doing “market analysis.” All roads lead to Dallas. The answer is yes.

Rent, only for one reason no guarantee of job even if you relocate
Always rent first. You don’t want to get stuck in an area you don’t like because you bought. If you decide to purchase, make sure it’s north because headquarters may be moving that way.
@ah Interesting. Frisco or Plano may be better for renting, then.
Renew your passport for international travel to India.
I rented before I purchased. It may make sense also to rent now because Dallas may not be HQ in the future and the decision may be made within the next year so it would be nice to have that flexibility.
