I was told WF doesn’t give promotions. Any truth to this? I have been here for 1 year and was hoping to get a title change.

@OP They no longer give promotions within your team simply because you deserve it. Before they made these changes I had 3 and was moving along great. Now you have to wait for a “position” to open and apply and interview. So depends on what you mean by promotion.
Been promoted twice in the last four years.
Promoted last year.
promotion without an open job posting means that it is funded with the operational budget at the end of the year. The raise was small. I got the title of ‘King of the Moon’ and all the responsibilities but not much else. Added bonus of my team getting less. They think I got rich off of their backs with that extra 1%.
I once got "promoted" to be our team lead. I had to apply and interview for it.
Most managers/VPs have been with Wells since they were in junior high school
BE just prompted 20 managing directors. If MDs can be promoted in a batch, any promotion levels below should be like wholesale.
@ak what's a teller?
seems our non US team members get promoted every year.
There are more VP’s than tellers.
If you switch industries it definitely confuses people why "vice presidents", "executive directors" and "managing directors" are applying for senior individual contributor roles. I sometimes think the banking industry does people a disservice by giving them titles when they are clearly not at that level.
@ab
Yes, they are. Along with most of the other posts.
Are you really that tone deaf to complain about promos that may or may not happen in a forum where we are talking about layoff and ppl losing their job??
If you’re in some of the entry level positions like a call center, maybe. I would encourage you to set your own goals, pick a direction, and start training/networking for the next position. I would communicate your goals to your manager as far as salary expectations and they may look out for other jobs for you, but don’t count on it. For example, I’ve had managers recommend me for a job and would share it with me. But again, don’t count on that. If I find the position on my own, I usually don’t tell my manager until I’ve gotten a true interview with the team (not the initial HR interview.)
Don't confuse a title change for a promotion. Most of the titles are not recognizable in the industry. Drives HR screeners crazy.
They do, but they are not common. The most common way is to apply for the role, but your leadership will still call it a promotion.
Oh sweet summer child 🤦🏻♀️
It's not super common, but they do. Definitely not after just a year though.
Hahahahahahahaha
