WFH is audited in the same way in office is. Effectiveness is measured through output and the quality of your work. If you suck in the office, you're going to suck at home even more.
The numbers and annual reviews speak for themselves. Most WFH put in 8 hours a day on average if not more. The difference is it's not necessarily 8 hours straight. I spent many years in the office working 8 hours a day and in reality at least a couple of those hours were spent jaw ja--ing around other people's cubicles or dragged off to pointless meetings.
Working from home you are more responsible for your own time. If you do not have the discipline and capability to self-manage then maybe you are not WFH material, and you should stay in the office to be micromanaged by a babysitter for adults...
I can easily work three hours a day but explain what I did for eight. That wouldn’t even be challenging.
The time it takes to come up with the BS would be included in my three hours a day.

OP is expecting there are objective work load management systems in place, data driven decision making and fire the under performers. That is an admirable view.
Here is the reality. Stankey always cried about competitive marketplace, cost reduction and no one is safe.
*Cutting cost and paying dividends isn't a competitive or growth strategy, lowering stock price will continue.
*Cost reduction has nothing to do with workload, as you often heard, no backfill for attrition, will figure out if exception is needed later. This isn't manage staffing for workload, it is waiting fro s#$% hits the fan and try to recover.
*No one is safe is taking whatever morale that's left for those who are putting in some decent effort. And for those who are already don't give a f@#$, they care even less.
Go ahead, fire all the lazy workers, none of the above will change.

Salary doesn't mean you should be working less than 8 hours a day. It means you are working at least 8 hours a day and sometimes more. That's the whole point of claiming time in the WEBSTR system.
Perhaps you should be audited for your work. Do you get anything done? It doesn't matter if you are in the office or at home. It's results that count.
Some people are salaried and are not paid for an 8-hour day. They are paid to accomplish work which may take 4 or 12 hours. When it takes 12 hours are you also suggesting they should get a 50% pay increase?
Take that finger you're pointing and do something fun and useful with it.
