Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

I was just told to train someone new

They've asked me to fully train a new person on my team. I can't help but feel like this is a bad sign for my own job here. I'm showing him the essentials, but I'm definitely keeping some key details to myself. It's a strange and uncomfortable position to be put in.

"The business will have buffers"

You are on the wrong layoff board. This is for Fiserv. Fiserv will layoff everyone who knows how to do a job, then try to hire to replace them.

"Buffers" lol

I never understood this mindset. Who are you hurting if you dont train this new person correctly and completely? Best case is they're there to help you and you're shooting yourself in the foot. Worst case is that you're leaving gaps for after you leave. That'll hurt the new person most. They're not the reason you lost your job so why hurt them?

The business will have buffers for bad training and ramp-up time so they won't feel much pain if any. So why do this? Just train them properly.

If it seems like you're being pushed out, maybe negotiate more money for an exit package or more time before they cut you because you're "doing such a detailed job training the new person".

I've trained numerous new joiners to my team and I'm still employed.

You're only hurting yourself by gatekeeping.

Empl: I have too much workload and need some help.
Mgr: We hired a new person so please train the person
Empl: OMG they are going to replace me so I won’t do it. I am super insecure , highly overpaid and my skills are easily replaceable but I have been coasting without anyone noticing. Let me make sure the new person leaves or is fired so I can go back to whining

@OP you might be overly paranoid. If you are a top performer it’s not an unusual request. It depends on your role too.
