don't buy a house downwind of the refinery.. that means Sherwood Park...
For me it's the worsening of future opportunities in Edmonton. It's one thing to uproot your life and family, but doing that into a company with diminishing opportunities and bleak future is career su----e.
Worst part is all the managers here just gaslighting on how great this company is and its culture.
News flash. Company culture is a reflection of how you treat your employees.
Not very good lately. So please stop with the gaslight, no one is buying it.
Agree, the company gradually lost its soul little by little over the last few years, and those of us who chose to continue until today gradually became puppets of the EM organization. It is too late for any of us to revive the culture we were so proud of, so like it or not We Are ExxonMobil and the parent company decided affiliates will just follow direction from Houston with no much input. If you still want to pursue a rewarding career perhaps time to look for it somewhere else
This post exemplifies that the ‘soul’ of Imperial is gone.
30% of employees said NO because the company is a sinkhole that offers no plausible future for career advancement.
Edmonton isn’t cr-p. In fact most site folks have been empathetic to those affected. A strong community spirit lives in Scona. Calgarians should take note and learn.
@an seething? really?? Aren't Calgarians usually butt hurts when compared to Toronto or Vancouver. But hey at least we "think" we are better than Edmonton.
Company su-ks for moving for no apparent logic, you should find a way to stay in Calgary if you love it so much.
@b1
Very well said! There’s a lot of pathetic sounding ppl here crapping all over Edmonton making it sound like living in Calgary is like living in Southern California!! ITS STILL ALBERTA PEOPLE!🤦🏻♂️ It still gets -40 and below in Calgary! You still have to plug in your car in Calgary and warm it up in the morning, and after work. Jeez. QP is not the only place affected by this transition. Yes it su-ks. If you’re planning to stay with Imperial for your career and move to Edmonton, it’s time to put your big boy pants on and come with a good attitude. Otherwise Strathcona will become the next Cold Lake….worst morale of any site in this company
Scona employee here- since the announcement I have heard nothing but support, empathy and concern at the site for our fellow coworkers in Calgary, be it from MPT staff or wage. Lots of us have listened and comforted long-time friends and colleagues at QP, hosted them for stays and dinners (even the mech manager), offered to be ambassadors and help people with relo, talking endlessly at work about how awful it is that the company would make you uproot your lives for no real reason and make hard decisions. Also let’s not forget we are also impacted by this - both in having our own layoffs but also being moved out of offices starting July 26.
Can we not collectively bi--h about this layoff and our soulless management, without shutting all over Edmonton?
There are many of us on this layoff site and this is our city and home. We would welcome you with open arms in 2028-2029, so maybe it’s short-sighted to build bad blood between Edm-Cal before the move.
Also- Go Oilers Go.
QP Campus > Spring Campus
Spring Campus > Strathcona Refinery
Calgary > Houston
Calgary > Edmonton
Edmonton > Houston
Why do you think so?
Grow up! It is not about the city! It is about working for a company which does not value ite people! People dont want to uproot their family and lives to move with a company which does not have a future!
Tell a Calgarian you don't like their city: "Well, that's like your opinion, man".
Tell an Edmontonian you don't like their city: Endless seething/SDE, "it's not that bad", "the one month of summer is great", "THIS IS OIL COUNTRY, GO OILERS GO", etc.
Over 70% of Calgary said yes to relocation, we will see what fraction of those are real.
