Good luck with that. My manager is just writing people up to fire them with cause - and then replacing them with offshore labor.
Is this really happening?

Yes. They absolutely write you up and twist every experience to fit the write up so that they can fire you “for cause” and deny you severance. Then they put you through the arbitration process where they will uphold the BS firing with even more BS. They did it to me because they would have had to pay me severance for 20 years of service if they had laid me off. This was a few years ago, so clearly they saw the tactic works, which is why you’re seeing more of it.
If you train offshore hires, give them the bare minimum of information. Avoid giving them any information, if you can. If your onshore teammates give them useful instruction, imply that info is inaccurate/incomplete, and share conflicting instructions. Do not share details on how to resolve critical issues. Avoid documenting processes whenever possible. If you must document, be vague and accidentally omit necessary info. If the offshore hires flounder, let them. If they don’t know who to contact for assistance outside your group, tell them you don’t know either. If they struggle with English, do not re-explain/rephrase what you said. Speak and write in long, grammatically messy sentences. Explain things quickly.
Do not be soft-hearted. They have chosen to work for this company. Customers/external companies working with offshore employees need to hate the experience, and ensuring offshore hires are incompetent will enable this.
Optum doesn’t value us and may lay you off no matter what you do. There is no reason for us to help offshoring be successful.
Last team I worked on was very proud to have 90% India based employees and only 10% US based employees. Last I heard they started laying off more of the US based employees to offshore more of those jobs.
@a9 those are rookie numbers, the "new" target is 80% offshore.
Problem is as we rollout more AI the job funnel from USA -> India -> Philippines -> poof means that USA percentage might creep up again. Hence why we're dissolving OI and Optum Consumer which are largely in the USA.
It's also why we're growing in Ireland - they're seen as more efficient even if the cost is about the same. HR is combating this by down-leveling GLs.
I have heard that the new goal is 70% offshore and 30% onshore
Writeups, maybe.
Offshoring, yes, absolutely.
Various areas of the business are being hit hard, positions eliminated in the US and hiring going on offshore for the exact same position.
To make it worse, hiring is taking place before the elimination. Got a new team member in India doing the same role.. they are likely your replacement.
