2023, the year of RTO tracking

3 and 4 down managers received notification and reports of their RTO compliance rates. 2023 will be a year of tracking and enforcing RTO. People managers are required to be in office 3 days per year or face discipline.

Technology individual contributors will be allowed to continue to WFH.

“ 2023 is just going to be like 2022. They’ll call people back, barely anyone shows up, people go back to WFH. I think the compliance rate for my team was like 25%. I’m sure it’s gotten lower with the holidays/winter. Not worried about it. If you’re middle of the pack, what can they really do?”

My understanding from a couple sources is if groups don’t comply with 3 days per week, then EVERYONE will be told they have to come in 5 days per week. (I realize some have been doing this all along.) I believe there will be a large exodus, but I think it will be the lower levels that will suffer with having fewer people do more work while in the office 5 days per week instead of 3. I hate RTO, but it seems this could get ugly quickly.

Some of us don’t care what they threaten because we have an accommodation and they will be violating the ADA otherwise.

Unsurprisingly, there's a pretty PowerPoint presentation floating around of our "Roadmap to RTO".

The stupid azz rules they keep coming up with are the real problem. People Managers have to come in 3 days a week but their agile teams only for ceremonies? Genius!

Someone on my team left midyear - in tech. They went to a smaller, but still large, financial services company. They let managers choose the RTO cadence. The only restriction is you have to live in a state the company has offices in and be able to come into the office if there’s an all hands or something. Executive management there has a quarterly AMA and he told me the auditorium was full. Managers cater in lunch when everyone comes in and people are all happy and get along.

A big adjustment from working here! I keep hoping he calls me for a job opening.

F the NYC team and FRTO. I can't even attend their stupid meetings or read their stupid emails anymore. It's nothing but lies and BS. "Better Together"...unless you're in the cool kids group then we're not better together and can WFH. F off with that BS. The board could literally throw darts at a list of possible policy decisions and do better than the NYC Klan, and it'd save the company $50M or whatever we are paying these id--ts.

All managers will resign soon, if forced to come to office! so RTO will fail miserably!

Ties to bonus? Interesting. So I can lose 1500 in bonus and save 1500 by not RTO? Sounds like a wash to me!

Saul confirmed individual contributors still stay the wfh except for important meetings. But some managers who have been told they need to come in three days a week seem to think this applies to their staff as well. Before people get in trouble they need to get their facts straight. Sucks if you are a manager and you hate RTO but oh well.

OP: Three days per "year"? Assume you mean "week".
