Curious if anyone knows how they verify employment to a prospective employer and what they share? I would imagine it goes through HR and possibly even some sort of automated process? Do they only provide dates of employment and title? Will they answer additional questions, if asked?
To be clear, I’m not talking about anything involving a reference check- just the standard employment verification to make sure I did actually work there.

The firm only confirms the start and end dates of employment. I recently left. And after the verification, the new employer asked me precisely my status after the last precise date of employment at BNY. The only way they would know that kind of detail is if they were specified the start and end dates by the agency that provides the verification (“work number” or something like that).
Now now… Let’s be fair. HR has three purposes here which they do well: finding firing victims for balance sheets, denying benefits and using PIPs to make shrunken heads.
Goes through the work number. HR doesn’t do sh-t.
They use third party with a phone number. All automated. title/year/ no manager bullsh$it
Titile, years of service, nothing more
That you were an employee and maybe years of service but thats it
