@OP anyone else's club tell you to take a longer lunch to cut your hours?? That sounds like forced ot without pay to me.
some of these are spot on. its your day off, take it. If they ask you to come in on your day off, they first question you ask is, will I get Overtime for this. if the answer is no, then you tell them I will not be working my day off, and you should compensate for this accordingly
I have the work number blocked on my phone. We are not paid to be on call. They have never said anything to me.
They need to be like other companies, anything over an 8 hour shift is automatic time and a half. Ive been done dirty that way too.
You are off the clock.sue them for making you work off the clock!tell that manager to stop making you work off the clock@home,report them/home office.when they have a call out-they have to work, not sit in the office!home office should just hire a security officer to open & close the front doors!
NEVER answer a work call on your day off ! Do not hit the ignore button either. Just let it ring till it goes to voice mail . That way they can not play the old we know you knew we were calling game. Only about 1 percent of the timw will the call be one you want to take and generally you will already be waiting on that call. So if you are not expecting a call from Sams DO NOT answer a call from them. Once you start answering their calls and coming to their rescue they will expect it and punish you when you do not. Lets say that 9 times they call you and you go in because you can and dont mind. On the 10th call in if you legitimately can not make it in and say no they will get angry and lash out at you.
Now as far as reward for coming in? You might get a thank you. Not likely though. Suppose though you make a mistake on a day you were not even supposed to be there. They will not understand that had they just left you alone for the day you would not have been there to make the mistake in the first place. If you come in to cover an area you usually do not work in they are gonna still expect you perform as well in that position as you do in your own.
There was a time in America that if you went above and beyond you would eventually be rewarded for that. But its no longer that way. At least not in cororate America. You must sacrifice your individuallity for the machine . If you are self motivated and self protective the machine typically spits you out. Dont believe that? Just try to defend yourself when a manager accuses you of literally anything that happened as a result of their own stupidity.
Bottom like. Show up for work. Work well. Put the company's needs ahead of your own while on the clock so long as doing so is not acively harming yourself. Do exactly as you are told and never tell a manager they are wrong or at fault. When you are off the clock you owe the company nothing but to come in for your next scheduled shift. DO NOT answer a call from work unless already expecting one. Lastly. Never ever believe that friendship from a manager will mean they will defend you over the cpmpany. They will not. They are only being your friend because you make their life easier at work not because they will take a bullet for you. All of these things might have exceptions on rare occasions but by and large if you live by the things I have listed you can work a long time at sams and keep your sanity. NEVER believe that YOU as an individual are importand to the corporate machine! You are NOT !! You are nothing but a piece of gum the machine rolled over on its way to where ever it is going.
The sooner you learn this, the better off you'll be.
Pass the word.
