I was able to negotiate a better severance package. The company recently bumped up its severance fund to $205 million, so theres more room to work. I got extra compensation and more months of outplacement services. Definitely try negotiating. They're open to it and it's worth asking

@dh they keep changing the policy around everything recently, May I ask how many years of tenure did you have to get 52 weeks or was it a combination of tenure and grade level?
I attempted to negotiate and it was a hard no. Never hurts to ask though.
How did you do the? Someone being let go has no leverage.
I tried and it was a solid no. This was earlier this year though. Makes me mad because they specifically said "we never negotiate severance". Fu--ing liars.
I was already at the max of 52 weeks. Not sure they would go any higher. I am of retirement age, so taking this as a sign to just retire now. Good luck to all of those on the job search. Former colleagues finally found jobs (financial services, banks), after about 8 to 9 months; one got a substantial pay increase at the new company. So while I know it’s tough right now, people are finding new opportunities.
