Thread regarding Fannie Mae layoffs

I think its good, but that doesn't mean more layoffs aren't coming next year. Take the extra days off. I think they did it because most people were off and using vacation anyway and the holidays fall sort of middle of the week. I don't think there is that much into it, I think people are looking too seriously or too deep at every decision that is made thinking there is some evil or intentional motivation.

@17a explain how it saves money?

Shutting down for the holidays is a cost cutting exercise, not a show of generosity to boost morale

@jr I understand that the chaos of these past 6 months are going to leave scars visible for years but at the same time you folks can't ignore the fact that they have already changed their tune. Unless you are blind and tone deaf.

@OP they could be ramping up for cuts, and on Jan 4, a chunk of people will receive the dreaded "work from home today" text at 5 am. Hopefully this is not the case because that would be cruel.

No, because we already plan for FTEs to be away...its not a true measure of capacity or workload..

@eq that’s what I am thinking. Is it a test for next round layoff target?

@eq it should be front and center of the mind. People here don't realize how fortunate they are to be working for a company that makes billions by default and can easily afford to do things like these. This is going to matter even more in the future where knowledge and what we call skills are worthless. That's partially already the case.

If the firm can give you all a whole wk off, it means it can function w/o most of you. Keep that in the back of your mind.

What does that mean for contractors who were told they would not be furloughed?

Thought it was phishing too. Got confirmation earlier today. It’s legit.

@b9 I thought it was a phishing test at first!

The fact that so many feel like the email is not legitimate, just goes to show how broken this company is right now.
What a poorly worded email! I'm happy for the time off but I know next year is going to be a 3 ring circus. (If I don't get axed in the meantime)
