Newsflash - it’s not the 20th century anymore. Things have changed, advertisers don’t pay websites directly - they use ad networks like Google Ads to show you ads based on what you browse or search for. So you’ll probably see the same ad on the next site you visit, like I keep seeing ads for wireless earbuds after looking at them recently.
Maybe paying for ads gets them editorial controls.
