Wells Fargo holding job fair to court Bay Area tech talent
Wells Fargo is holding a job fair in San Francisco Tuesday afternoon as it seeks to fill more than 50 positions in the region for executive, senior and junior technology positions.
Wells (NYSE: WFC) said the job fair has been in the works for quite some time, but the San Francisco bank could score points for great timing as major tech employers and promising fintechs have cut thousands of employees in recent weeks.
“We will hopefully benefit from people at least having a willingness to look around,” Jason Strle, chief information officer for enterprise functions technology at Wells Fargo, told me Monday. “Hopefully, there’s a lot of strong talent that’s interested. But strong talent is always in demand.”
The San Francisco bank is seeking to fill a variety of positions, including senior information security engineer, cyber security consultants and software engineers.
“It’s important people understand that Wells Fargo is a very large technology company,” Strle said. “I’m not sure that people are always aware of the amount of time, energy and resources that we put into technology.
“We’re working on the same tech stacks that they’re going to work off of with your more well known large technology players,” Strle said, pointing to the bank’s work involving artificial intelligence and using data to improve the customer experience. Strle oversees Wells Fargo's tech workforce throughout the Bay Area and is responsible for tech involved with corporate functions such as human resources, finance, legal, risk, audit and regulatory relations.
Other major banks are also seeking to attract the region’s fintech talent. JPMorgan Chase recently opened its new Palo Alto Center, which houses tech talent from various parts of the bank in offices designed with the Silicon Valley workforce in mind. Bank of America recently gathered with fintech entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in Silicon Valley to strengthen relationships with the innovators.
