I was working closely with an individual who was unfortunately let go..
Are they still suppose to work? I hope NOT. I am not sure how to approach or not approach at all.

@cs OR. You can just do your job that you’re still currently being paid to do HAHA.
@b0 HAHA maybe you should quit in solidarity with those laid off so things are truly "fair." Give me a break!
No - are you kidding? Chill out, chat with compatriots, take long lunches, look for work...
Take care of yourself physically and mentally these last few weeks as some managers are selfish and expect you do work long hours to train, knowing you are leaving. This is due to their hands off approach not about fairness. Had they managed as they should have they would have been proactive and not reactive at your expense.
Look. Layoffs stink. My heart goes out to those affected. I completely understand taking the rest of the day off, and even the next day.
But if you’re still on payroll until December 19th or later, you should be working. The layoffs were not effective immediately. And it’s not fair to those of us that had to immediately pick up our coworkers work immediately.
Layoffs are never random. The workflow starts with the selection manager, then HR, Legal.
This is.
My second time surviving a layoff. The first layoff. I had a pretty good hunch of me being kept over another person. Based on skill level, tenure, likeabililty only. This layoff seemed so random it's like they put everything in a bucket and layed off random people.
That said I brushed up my resume last week and will still be pursuing other opportunities in 2026 because this type of leadership is something I can do without.
@a3 Like the people who were laid off, it’ll take some time for you to go back to normal.
I survived myself, but in some ways it had a profound impact on me as well, since I can empathize with the folks that were laid off (I have been laid off before).
My best advice for you is, you have to remember that this just a job, and that this doesn’t define who you are. You also have to remember, there are way worse things in life, much worse.
When I was laid off a few years back at my last organization, I, like most people felt like cr-p. What made me feel better is simply putting things in perspective, that my family and children are healthy, counting your blessings, etc. Again, at the end of the day, this is just a job, and the impacted people will eventually get back on horse and ride again.
Op here again: I survived the layoff but somehow I do not even feel like working anymore. It was so stressful and nerve wracking waiting to get or not get a call.
My whole morale is very down. I can’t imagine people who were asked to let go and still asked to work.
The documentation says yes but to coordinate with manager. One manager said there is a time code that can be used if the employees are not actively working on a project
