Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

30 day notice? What happened to WARN rules?

I’m in California and I thought we were supposed to get a 60 day notice vs a 30 day notice. Is this something I should reach out to HR?

The WARN act only requires you give 60 days notice before pay+benefits stop. They don't require that you keep coming in and doing a job.

This isn't "getting around WARN". Plenty of layoffs at different companies they tell you to go home and never come back THAT DAY.

@a7 this is exactly how they get around it. In NJ, they cannot pay in lieu of which is why those people get a full 90 days.

@OP If CA has a 60 day rule, VZ can give you a 30 day (paid) notice and pay you for the other 30 days = 60 days. Not sure why they would do that but it is a way around the WARN Act.

@OP States with WARN notices have later dates. For example NJ employees go till February 20.

I ChatGPT’d it a few days ago and I guess there are a few ways to circumvent that requirement. All of which I’m sure Verizon lawyers are aware of.

There is no HR left. They were part of the cuts.
