Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Complaining while doing the bare minimum

Honestly, I am tired of hearing complaints from individuals who expect changes for the better, while at the same time they even brag that they are only doing as much as is enough to avoid trouble. => Where is the logic in that?

look the company has been run like the Titanic and is basically sunk. Randy and John have to be 2 of the d-mbest along with the entire board, why even bother working hard on "projects" that fill time and offer zero benefits and lets be honest -rarely get finished. it's a game. play it get paid do nothing.

I have to ask the OP where the logic in is working yourself to death when it gets you nowhere? You already know there won't be changes.

I have a new calendar for 2023 on my cube wall, no chance for me to worry about lay off now, just going to mark off days one at a time on it like all the other years

It is the cesspool they created that is why it makes sense.

Been with T for more than 20 years. In that time I've watched very few people get promoted while they brought in good buddies from the outside or excess execs from Warner or other acquisitions. Literally, those who worked hardest had the least advancement. I gave up completely about six years ago and what do you know? Every year I seem to get more rewards and advancements than ever. I didn't make any progress until I essentially stopped doing anything useful. Now, tell me that the hardest working and best contributors move up at T. If you believe that, you are full of it.

The logic is that T has made it clear that no amount of effort, productivity, dedication, time, accomplishments, training, or loyalty means anything to them at all. Not in terms of promotions, raises, and especially not when it comes to layoffs. If you are on the list, you are done.

Sure, one would think that the cream of the employee crop would be rewarded and be safe, but as years of layoffs - often multiple per year - has proven over and over again, that's not how T operates.

So, why put in any extra effort?

Driving this gravy train until derailment. It's all about me. Self serving, self righteous, self motivated. Ain't no we, it's only me. Learned from the masters, the leadership at AT&T.

I love this...it's well said and very true about T leadership and exactly how T employees should think about themselves! Way to go!

It’s really nice being in a place in my life where I can stay with T or retire! I chose to stay because I want to milk this cake walk of a job for as long as possible! Where else can I find full-time pay for part-time work!

The dynamics changed when SBC took over and made the company into a toxic top down better do as I say management style because a few know better than the whole. The result is a frustrated robotic workforce that are only viewed as a number. Continual reduction in benefits and smaller pay raises but expected to do more with less due to constant layoffs.

People used to be valued for their experience, knowledge and ideas. It was encouraged bottom up management and the company was very successful with happy and involved employees. It was a family atmosphere and people were mostly promoted on merit not woke agenda’s. The Good Ole Days! Hmmmm…

Well, I’m sitting in the can on a zoom call and then it’s coffee break time. Answer some emails and then it’s time for some adult video entertainment. Then lunch. Cruise around for a while, pick up some groceries. Head home. Time for happy hour. What could possibly induce me to leave? Maybe a very generous enhanced offer? 🤑

We old timers are just sitting back, drinking coffee and waiting for an offer. Don’t wanna go, can’t make us go. Company can keep laying off all them young go getter millennials or AT&T can come across with an offer we can’t refuse. We be waiting…what was the latest? 5 years to age, 5 years to service and $5k per…now that’ll get her done!

When I was in 8th grade we had to write personal value statements...kind of like knowing yourself and who you want to become. I wrote things like wanting to be happy, being respectful, working hard, having integrity, being successful. It's something that's always stuck with me ... that plus having parents who told me to always, in everything 'do your very best'. I think there are people who want to go the extra mile in whatever job they have. And there are those who celebrate doing as little as possible because that is who they are.

Am I getting paid more if I do more work? No I am not. Just do enough to stay out of trouble. If they are gonna lay you off there is nothing you can do about it.

When the company sets numbers for your performance, they are setting a bar that states the “MINIMUM “ level of work required to be in good standing. No further work is required. Good standing is good standing. Anything beyond that is sucking azz to get ahead.

I just come here to harass. Text while at my reporting location, complain & get a paycheck for doing the minimum. I don't expect changes.
