Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

No layoffs before next year

I've heard from a few people that there's no need to worry about layoffs until next year. The higher-ups don't want to upset people too close to the holidays. Is this true or is it just wishful thinking?

@ph riiiiight. Because ELT's comp is totally commensurate with the value they are providing. It is such hard work to recite AI slop that your underlings prompted up for you and come up with such brilliant reorg strategies that you have to change them 7 times in 3 years because they keep failing.

@j8 If you were demoted as part of ER it means you were being overpaid for the little work you were doing in the past. Just be thankful the firm's previous leadership let you live an extremely easy life for years. Things at the firm are changing. Plenty of associates have been fleecing the firm for much too long. The people who will succeed in the future are the associates who are open to actually working and adding value for a more appropriate wage.

The head of my department is all in on AI. In her meeting with our team the week after August 25th, she told us she was going to spend summer of 2026 finding a way to have AI do our jobs. As someone who uses AI tools, I know it's not nearly ready to be able to handle my daily work. I still took it as a sign I should look elsewhere and left for a better paying job, on my terms.

I suspect my position and a few more like it are toast. My dept went through one of the "most radical" restructuring with ER. Lots of demotions. Lots of swirl on direction. A few fire drills but no real projects and no connection to new stakeholders. The writing is on the wall for me

@db when you consider some division like BCDE went through 7 reorgs with less than three years, Jan/feb sounds reasonable.

@op might not be layoffs but I’m pretty sure reorganization will happen in Jan/Feb.

@OP do you mean no more layoffs for the next six weeks (rest of 2025)? Wow, bless their hearts.

I mean, 6 weeks to make any kind of decision here would be lightning fast, so anything could be true.

@OP I’m going to try believing that, but I don’t trust this ELT with any fiber of my being. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised with no more layoffs this year, but their track record as of late gives me no reason to trust them.
