Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

This will NOT be the last round of layoffs if history is any guide

If you're early or mid career think longer term about the implications of a shrinking oil and gas industry, and where you want to be in the future. This will NOT be the last round of layoffs if history is any guide. Do not wait too late to transition to something else with more long term promise. Don't box yourself into a role that will not translate to another one elsewhere. It is quite rare that you will make it past 55 (or even 50) in this industry and by then it would be too difficult to pivot.

Sound advice. OP: @c8+1ka0j1k60

What a GENIUS! You must be a super smart or well connected person to be brave enough to predict our industry will have layoffs again.
DUH!

This round of layoffs is the pre-Thanksgiving lay-off. Lots of people are going to be giving thanks for things other than their jobs. The next round will be just before Christmas. For some this will not be a happy holiday season and the new year will really su-k. Maybe another round of layoffs just before Spring break and Easter to hurt a few more people. You get the picture.

Easier said in some departments than others. FP&A is a 30-40% pay cut to go to another industry and you’ll die at work around 82 else where instead of being able to retire at 60 here.

I don’t know if you noticed but retail banks don’t exactly pay a real market for services.

I agree, so don’t blow your money and keep stacking.
